Last I checked Axl had horrific vocal performances back in the day. He’s always been a mixed bag live.
Actually going to the show does make a huge difference because the band and him have skills which make it worth the price of admission one way or the other….in my opinion

True….glad I got to see Axl/DC and NITL within months of each other. It was as good as it gets for me which is why I am lukewarm on any future shows. Always up for any type of new music, but live is done for me.

AC/DC likely blew his voice out….he hasn’t been the same with Guns since then.

Agree on Cornell….in hindsight, he was consistently better. Axl would admit that.

Monkeychow,
Hendrix wrote the lyrics, put together the musical arrangements, sang, and played a wicked guitar. There is a reason people like Clapton, Townshend, McCartney, Dylan, etc worship the guy. He released 3 albums in 67-68 that were all off the radar good. Band of Gypsy’s would have been great as well. He died….arghhh.
Just put in Machine Gun, headphones and take that trip…..if 6 Was 9….Third Stone From The Sun….crazy killer psychedelic blues.

Back in the day, Don Henley said Axl had a voice like a chainsaw.

Monkeychow, Axl and Kurt couldn’t sniff or hold Jimi Hendrix’s jock. Hendrix is on a whole other level.

Back to The General….so, I’ve really started to love this song. The subject matter is pretty heavy since it is likely about the child abuse Axl suffered. It’s about the mental conflict going on in his head which is why you get the tempo changes, vocal changes, etc. The ending actually makes sense to me now. It’s a cry of pain and defiance. The chaotic shredding matches Axl’s chaotic wailing.
It’s Axl’s primal scream therapy. John Lennon’s best solo album Plastic Ono Band is really fucking heavy and came out after Lennon went through his therapy.
Maybe I’m way off but that’s the cool thing about Axl’s lyrics, he keeps us guessing on what the song is actually about.
