I guess we'll know soon enough. If 'The General' is a very average song or an instrumental (I think both are unfortunately quite likely given the weird way in which they are planning to release it) then it migth give credence to this story.
The questioning could then move to Bach, surely someone could go back to him on The General if it's an instrumental, doesn't match his description or is a poor song.

Feels like I've gone back in time 15 years. Talking about GNR leaks and Velvet Revolver.

It has vocals, it’s not industrial, and the snippet we’ve heard is not terrible and has some bad ass Axl screaming
So are you calling bullshit on the Italian insight into it being vinyl only, or do you have a theory that might explain it?
Why would they release a good song as a vinyl B side only?

Radio Rock (Italian site who first broke the story of Perhaps being delayed a week, according to them given from an internal source) says The General will not will be released digitally either for purchase or streaming:
Surely the only way this can be true is:
-If it's a terrible song.
-OR if it's so Bucket-heavy and electronic that Slash and Duff won't touch it, so they're essentially going to be releasing a demo version and never going to polish it off. This would be a nice nod to the hardcore, whilst also distancing it from the mainstream and the Slash/Duff reunion.
-OR it's an instrumental only. That has long been rumoured and would fit with it being used as the opening for Chinese Democracy.
My vision of it being a 7 minute epic rock-ballad seem way off. Madness.

Before hearing the cell phone recording I have the same hipotesis because state of grace fit Sebastian Bach description on the song..
He described as being the heaviest metal song he'd heard Axl do. Is it that? It's pretty industrial. It is slow and grinding and the second half of the song could fit the description of screaming vocals, so you could be right. Is there a link between State of Grace and The General as titles? Any movie reference of historical connection? Guns songs generally contain the song name in the lyrics and the main parts of the song seemed to have pretty well defined lyrics, that referencedthe word grace. State of Grace seems to be a fitting name for it. Where would the name The General come into it lyrically? There doesn't seem to be any link there unless I'm missing something. It's also one that they don't seem to take down from Youtube at all. It's been on there pretty much since it leaked, which always made me suspect it wasn't going to get a release.
I wouldn't mind State of Grace being The General, it's an outstanding demo that's for sure and it's one I've always been keen to hear released properly. It would kind of rob us of one AAA song though as most had hoped for State of Grace and The General separately.

They should've included a tiny clip of The General at the end of the ad.
It's definitely a strange way to handle what was the most hyped song of the saga.
I'm really starting to think it's going to be released as an afterthought to Perhaps and they're only doing it for us.
Any double A side fantasy scenarios quickly fading.
I've been thinking about this a lot. From what Sebastian Bach said, The General is the best song he'd heard from that era. We've also heard the Estranged sequel talk. So we're all expecting it to be a AAA title. Does this style of release mean it's not that in reality?
Or are they doing this to spike sales for the vinyl print for Perhaps that might otherwise have been modest? It would have been on Chinese Democracy in the first place if it was good, wouldn't it? Or was it one they were holding back for album 2?
It can't be that good a song if they're not releasing it as a standalone single, can it? Or should we expect it to drop randomly as a single once the Perhaps vinyl sells out?

Busngabb! Holy shit I haven't seen you in eons. I remember you from HTGTH and CD.com (I think).
I love seeing some old timers pop back in now that The General is on the launch pad.
Nice to be remembered. I was on most of the forums during the build up to Chinese Democracy being released, but lost interest a bit during the downtime the band had post release. I then lost my email address and couldn't unlock any of the former logins I used to have. I tried to re-register on mygnr but they never approve the account so can't get on there and got an email from HTGTH saying I was banned, even though I'd just created a new account and hadn't posted or done anything. I don't remember my old login being banned, so not sure what that is about but it seems pretty quiet on there anyway. A few of the others seem to have disappeared altogether.
But good to be back, hopefully this year fulfils the promise it's shown and we get The General without issues and the likes of Atlas and more as rumoured.
#58 Re: Guns N' Roses » What song do you want to hear most? » 95 weeks ago
Curly Shuffle and Me & My Elvis are the two from the leaks that I want to hear most. I think Elvis turned into Soul Monster or similar since, but loved the demo. Curly Shuffle sounds epic and you don't hear anyone talking about that one, did that get a name change too, or just not Guns' usual style so people don't like it?

I’m enjoying the 3 new tracks, absurd, hard skool and perhaps more than the majority of CD.
For the record, I liked CD a lot on release. Flawed obviously, but great moments there too.
I can see why Absurd and Hard Skool were left off the album. Absurd is awful and Hard Skool is okay but lacking something and a bit cheesy.
Perhaps is a big step up on those two. It's a puzzle as to why they never finished that off for Chinese Democracy. Not enough time I guess

Looks like the film crew that shot the Perhaps video is still out with them https://www.facebook.com/gunsnroses/vid … 9321143489
Possibly makes me think they could be shooting another music video.
Are they not just doing promo like all bands do? Look at the band's tweet on the 28th August about the Moncton, Montreal, NY, Pittsburgh and Boston shows. A minute of the footage they've been filming around the shows. A documentary or more music videos would be great, but suspect it's just to elevate the promo to prevent the US shows failing to sell tickets, which is appears a few of them are.
