#6771 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » SLASH To Present At 'MTV Video Music Awards' » 877 weeks ago
Unless Slash is BACK in GNR...............
Or maybe not.
Good points, if Slash is there you can pretty much count out Axl being there.

russtcb wrote:I don't really understand that idea of "telling Axl to fuck off" by not buying albums. How about just not paying attention to Axl at all if he's so bad?
I honestly don't feel that Axl can get away with doing anything to the fans. I personally think he had nothing to do with this whole situation. If it's proven otherwise to me, I may feel differently.
I'm not just talking about the Skwerl situation Russ. His lack of updates to the fans and everything else. I bet you anything that if U2, Coldplay or any other big bands would try to pull the shit Axl pulls that they wouldn't get away with it. For some reason unknown to me GNR probably has the most loyal fans EVER. Axl could kill and I'M sure a large chunk of the fans would scream injustice for him.
To say the making of this album has been an unbearably long and incomprehensible journey would be an understatement. Overcoming the endless and seemingly insane amount of obstacles faced by all involved, notwithstanding the emotional challenges endured by everyone -- the fans, the band, our road crew and business team -- has at many times seemed like a bad dream in which one wakes up only to find that they are still in the nightmare. Unfortunately, this time it has been played out for over a decade in real life.
The true, ongoing, behind-the-scenes triumphs and casualties are much more complicated than any negative speculation that the media or otherwise has managed to hit upon. For much of the time, various legal issues have arisen, demanding that the best way to deal with these things publicly, quite frankly, was to keep our mouths shut in an attempt to ensure the best outcome -- especially one that wouldn't jeopardize the band or the album. It's easy for people to point out how others have handled similar situations or how they would have dealt with these issues themselves if they encountered them in their own lives. But again, without full knowledge of the various dynamics and circumstances involved, these types of comments or commentary are just uninformed, disassociated, generally useless -- and often hindering -- speculation.
Sincerely,
Axl Rose

Some people could view the UYI's as "selling out" with the lavish stage setup, releasing 2 albums at once, having orchestral arrangements, backup singers, keyboards, a harmonica player, a huge tour. Or you could view that as evolving and growing as a band. Axl and the other guys had a vision when they began GNR, while they ultimately went down Axl's path moreso, I think everyone involved wouldn't argue that they never wanted to become "the most dangerous band in the world". They accomplished what they set out to do and more, in a short time. So I don't know if they would agree that they ever "sold out". You could argue their accomplishments are negated because they couldn't stay together, but a few of the guys might not be with us today if the band continued on. They appeared to have run their course.

hey winkler lets keep the insults to a minimum..thanks
gnr released 13 tracks to radio as singles for the UYI's...its pretty safe to say they were going commercial bigtime...do i care? but it didnt strat @ UYI...it started at AFD...6 tracks released as singles out of 12 and then another 5 of the afd tracks released as bsides and singles..thats just insane!
In my mind Lies was the least commercial of all the disks GnR released so i disagree with gnrfraxl there
Neemo's right, if you wanna get critical you could easily say GNR went commercial right from the start. SCOM, what's more radio friendly then that? I don't really get the point, as gnfnraxl said, the main reason people get into the music business is for the love of music and ultimately they'd like to make money. I don't know how many bands are out there that TRY to create music that nobody but a hardcore group of fans are going to like. Even bands like GWAR have cult followings and have carved out a niche for themselves in the industry. They "sold out" in a sense and you never hear them on the radio.

Will I buy CD? No. My mind was made up ages ago regarding this but if Gn'R had anything to do with this arrest than that makes my decision even easier. Will I listen to CD? yes. For free.
Blasphemous. I'll chip in and by a copy to cover your thievery. Just kidding of course, but I may offer to buy it for any friends interested. 10 bucks a pop, they can buy me a beer sometime and get me back. If its more than that, they're on their own.

I see no reason, none, why they cant. They are a very deep team at all positions, even the one the "experts" think they arent at (DE). I know that repeating is tough to do, but I see them as having as good of a shot as anyone in the NFC. Remember they beat the division champions for the NFC South, East, and North in the playoffs. Then they beat supposedly the greatest team ever. That is no fluke.
That was last year though. It is very difficult to repeat. They caught a wave last season and rode it all the way to the end. One of the greatest playoff runs in league history, probably THE greatest. During the regular season, they were okay, nothing special. Can they tune it up for a full season after winning the grand prize? It's not gonna be easy. That's why there aren't many believers. You gotta have faith in your team though, so I can't fault you there. They've got the talent, and they've proven they can do it, so it CAN happen. I wouldn't bet on it though. They're in a tough conference, though the NFC is still totally up for grabs so any team could still slide in as a wildcard and do some damage.

I've decided to go out on a limb and proclaim they miss the playoffs.
How dare you James. The only way that happens is if Brady goes down. If that happens, I might be right there with you. He's quite durable though, so I don't count on that happening.

PaSnow wrote:Did the Giants ever pick up Jerome McDougle??
If so it was a wise move since Umenuyra (i bothed that didn't I?) went down. He was a lazy bastard here but is the type to do well somewhere else & come back to haunt us. He had a good preseason, only he also had 5 horrible seasons here as well.
Yep, the Giants signed McDougle Sunday. It is really a low risk-high reward type thing. He'll fit in well in the Giants Four Aces package. Some people said that losing Strahan and Umenyiora would cripple the Giants D, but it wont with Tuck and Kiwanuka as starters. Where it was really going to effect the Giants was in the special Four Aces package (where they lined up four quality DEs on the line and just let them wreak havoc), and depth. If one of Tuck or Kiwanuka goes down, then the Giants will be effected. But this is what made the McDougle signing so important. They can insert him in the passing downs and also spell Tuck or Kiwanuka, and if they get hurt.
On a side note, the Giants looked to draft McDougle back in 03, but the Eagles jumped in front of the Giants and got him. Funny how things work out.
Yeah I think the Giants will be fine even without Strahan and Umenyora, until they have an injury on the D-line. Then their depth will be tested. Not saying it's gonna happen, but chances are it will.

Not only will I buy it, I'll be buying the super exclusive collectors edition (if available).
Absolutely, I hope they follow the route Metallica has gone, or something like it. I'd be all over that. I'll settle for just the CD in Metallica's case though.
