#6821 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR's 'Democracy' To Be Retail Exclusive? » 879 weeks ago

Yeah hopefully that's the reason negotiations have taken so long.  Here's to having a successful resolution sometime soon.

Yeah Brady hasn't played, which shows that if he ever gets hurt the Pats are in some serious trouble.  Goes to show you how ridiculous it was for people to call him a "system quarterback" a couple years back.  The backup QB's have been terrible.  I'll give them a little bit of a pass though as the offensive line (they've missed a few starters as well) has been equally as bad.  It's tough to look good when you've got no protection.  So sure, they've looked bad but haven't had close to their "A" team on the field.  I don't like that excuse though.  You're only as good as your backups, you need extreme depth in the NFL.  That's why the Pats have been good for so many years.  They've been able to withstand injuries.  Guys go down, other guys step right in and they don't miss a beat.  If the guys who've looked so bad in the first 2 games don't improve, I will cringe when the first injury occurs during the regular seson.  The O-line is my biggest worry.  They played awful in the Super Bowl and have picked up right where they left off in the pre-season.  That's where it all starts, they need to improve their play there.

"Lips of an Angel" did reach #3 on the charts, but I consider that a ballad, nothing hard about that song.  I agree a ballad can chart well (top 10), but as good as I think Shackler's is I don't think it can crack that level.  If someone can show me a HARD rocking song that has, then I'll hold out some hope.

Back to Song 2, I know a lot of people hate the song but it has grown on me.  I like it, though I like all the leaks.  And I don't think it's "Prostitute", though what do I know?

Someone posted over at HTGTH that Staind was on the Howard Stern Show today (I have it taped but haven't gotten to that part yet), and they talked about exclusive retail releases.  Apparently, a retailer like Wal-Mart will buy a million copies for example and that counts towards record sales regardless of whether they're ever sold from the store or not.  If that's the case the sales would be off the charts initially.  I don't see how that would work though, because what would happen when they are sold at the store?  Do they count as double sales?  You sell one, you're actually selling 2?  One to Wal-Mart, one to the customer?  Maybe when I listen to Staind explain it I'll understand it better.

It's early though.  I didn't watch any of the game.  I still can't watch any game featuring the Giants (still smarting from the Super Bowl).  The Patriots looked horrendous last night, I can't imagine the Browns could've looked any worse than them.  But I'm not exactly ready to throw in the towel on the season.  I would like to see SOME improvement next time out though.  They looked decent in game 1 so I'm taking it as just a BAD day.  Could be the same for the Browns.  They should be a decent team this year, though they're not gonna sneak up on anybody this time around, tougher schedule too.

As for commercial success, I expect GNR to do close to as well as the biggest rock bands around these days do. That means a lot less than it used to. GNR's top single could not even be top 40 and qualify as 'as successful as any rock is'. If their sales and singles (in the States) can do as well as Metallica's, and a little less than U2's, I'll be happy. The days of rock ballads ever hitting #1 are long gone.

That's basically the point I'm trying to make.  I think some of the songs will chart very well on the rock charts, but not so much on the overall top 40 pop chart.  That just doesn't happen these days.  If GNR can crack that list consistently then they will have changed the landscape of music AGAIN!

not this guy there was no joking he said a fan sent a link to him and he listened and he thought it sucked...then he said that maybe there will be a different mix on the album or maybe its not even the RockBand2 track ..nobody knows....so he did his research and presented it as news...not a joke

this station does their research though and stay up on alot of different bands

With all due respect.  I'm sure the DJ in question gave the song a quick first listen and never went back to it.  His initial thought was he didn't like.  I think a lot of people have that thought with a LOT of songs, not just this one.  It's rare you hear a song and fall in love with it right away.  If the guy gave it a chance he might change his mind.  I doubt the radio stations will play the song just once then throw it in the garbage bin.  It'll have its chance to grow on people.

3 Doors Down peaked at 17 (not sure how long it was there though).  Are you going to tell me that GnR can't do better than 3 Doors Down, especially with all the years of hype?  If that's the case, Axl may as well close down shop now.  I'm not asking for a #1 song, but top 20 for a few weeks isn't being overly demanding.

Oh I HOPE GNR can outdo 3 Doors Down.  It looks like it'll be tough for "Shackler's Revenge" to crack the top 20 though, just going by the recent history of NO hard rock tracks being able to do that.  A ballad, yes, that would be possible.  I thought "The Blues" had that crossover potential, but that was 8 years ago.  I don't know if it could still hold up today.  The time may have passed.  I still think it's a solid song though.  Song 2 probably has a little too much going on in it for it to be a big hit.  CITR may have "it" but that supposedly is not in the plans for CD, then again what do we know?

Did anything actually THINK GNR would tour anytime soon? And did anyone actually THINK Finck would be back by October or whenever it was? He's busy for longer than this year, I'm quite sure about that.

I didn't think they would tour, but I was hoping for an album release.  I wonder what they'll do with the Rock Band release.  Will there be any movement then?  A description of who's on the track (no Robin)?  Just seems like NIN isn't gonna quit anytime soon, nor will Finck, so to quote Axl "where do we go now?"

We just need a lineup now.  They don't necessarily have to tour right away, but I would think they'd need a lineup in place, no?

Take away that's it's GnR for a second.

How stupid is this?  It's quite possible that nobody else is in the band right now other than Axl.  Who will show up if/when Axl is ready to get this show back on the road?

Obviously Dizzy will be there because, well, what else is he going to do?

Same for Pitman.

Sounds like Ron wants to be there.

Richard will be there as long as New Kids on the Block don't need a session player.

What about Tommy?  When will he get tired of the joke that is GnR?  He wasn't a fan in the first place...this can't be making him feel any better about it, though it's better than selling cars for a living.

Who will replace Robin?  As much as I didn't care for his style in GnR, he has a "unique" style that won't be easy to replicate.

By that rationale they may need a bass player and a lead guitar playe....... AHEM!  Does anyone know where we can find a viable bass and lead guitar player?

I kid, I kid.
