Oh boy, I think you're getting negative rep for that one.  I actually like that song a lot.  I like some of her other stuff too, I really dig "Paper Planes" though.

I'm not sure what you're considering a commercial success.  I know you just explained, but top 20 on what chart?  I think this song could chart VERY well on the modern rock circuit.  If you're looking at top 40, not sure there.  I don't view that chart often, but isn't that filled with R&B, rap, teeny bopper music?  I could see a rock ballad charting well, but not sure about hard tracks like this.  Again, I don't know for sure, I'd have to take a closer look at the charts.

Top 40 is all that matters.  Charting on Adult Contemporary isn't success.  Modern "rock" songs end up on the Top 40 chart - it's not an unreasonable expectation.

Edit: Let's put it this way...I didn't check the Top 40 chart for VR, but I know TLF was on the VH1 countdown for a few weeks, so it's likely it was somewhere on that chart.  Libertad (by most accounts) was a piece of shit, but TLF had some limited commercial success.  I would expect it to at the very, very least surpass anything VR did since the general concensous is VR sucks.

I don't think VR sucks, but I agree I'd wish/hope GNR would chart better than them since I do think the music is better.  According to billboard TLF hit #16 on the Hot Mainstream Rock chart, it peaked at #72 on the Canadian Hot 100.  Those are the only 2 charts I see it on.  "Fall To Pieces" hit #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2004.  I'm just not seeing many modern rock tracks on the charts.  You've got a chance with a ballad, but I don't see a hard rocker making it.

Just looking at the Billboard Hot 100 (by the way James M.I.A. is #5), you've got the Flobots at 42, 3 Doors Down at 30, Kid Rock at 28.  Recent history would tell you that NO rock band charts well these days compared to all the pop acts.  That Kid Rock song is huge these days and it's at its peak right now at #28.  With summer coming to an end I don't see it going much higher, so I still contend it's not easy cracking the top 20.

For comparison sake, Buckcherry's "Sorry" did hit the top 10, #9.  But again, that's a ballad.  I'm not seeing ANY hard rock songs reaching the top 20.  So if GNR were to make it, I'd take that as quite an accomplishment.

Yeah...i can't see a 2008 tour happening...every time someone leaves it costs us more time!

I know, it's really ridiculous.  I just hope they find a replacement quicker than they did for Bucket.  That is IF Robin is gone.  And in a way I hope he is.  For the simple fact that I don't see his time in NIN ending any time soon.  As James said, I'd expect them to tour overseas for much of 2009.  It seems like CD is close to coming out.  We just need a lineup now.  They don't necessarily have to tour right away, but I would think they'd need a lineup in place, no?

#6836 Re: Guns N' Roses » Hanes commercial that sounds like it could be Axl Rose singing? » 879 weeks ago

Well at least the Hanes commercial does feature the greatest basketball player of all time and the actor to bang the most hookers and hollywood escorts in history.  But yeah I don't buy it as being Axl.  I don't know why they'd agree to have a song on a commercial and not have it featured prominently.  Nobody (except some crazy GNR fans) is gonna watch that commercial and even notice that song.

Good, be cynical instead of reading what's actually written. She doesn't, I'm just seeking an unbiased opinion outside the GNR community, since they're obviously starstruck by Axl's brigade.

It's just really strange to be on a GNR board and have to read all the Slash hate all the time. This is almost like on HTGTH just before Jarmo went completely bonkers. almost...

Hey I don't hate Slash, far from it.  I'd love to see he and Axl share a stage in the future, I just don't see it happening so I've moved on.  Sure there are gonna be people who hate the material on CD (if it ever comes out).  There's plenty of people who hated Libertad as well, I might remind you.  I've gotten some positive unbiased opinions on Shackler's too, so again it goes both ways.  It's a stark difference from the old band.  Something Slash would never be a part of, maybe that's why he's not in the band anymore.

And again, I'm not a Slash hater, I know they exist although still unsure why.  I love some of his work on the VR material, I just don't think it stands up to his work in GNR and I can see the new band eclipsing VR's work as well.  That's all.

If he goes Best Buy exclusive; well in Canada Best Buys (and their affiliate, Future Shop) are pretty sparse. The nearest copy of Chinese Democracy would be two hours away from me. Hopefully if it's exclusive, it's Walmart. As long as they don't censor it, but I'm not sure if they do that anymore... they have R-rated/unrated DVDs. That doesn't mean anything really, but it would be some hypocrisy.

The new songs we've heard really don't have many curses in them.  Nothing like their previous albums, so I don't know if censoring would be an issue.  It may not even get the sticker.  That is, as long as "Silkworms" isn't on it.  Those lyrics, we'll they're a little filthy.

I'm sure that when we get a real version of it (as in, one not ripped out of RB2) it'll sound much better. Speaking of which, my buddy returned from Vegas yesterday and reconfirmed that this is indeed SR.

Can we get him to work on figuring out the title to song 2 now?

Joking of course.  I figured it was Shackler, but hearing it from someone close to the process pretty much confirms it.

Well I think I'm entitled to my opinion.  You're obviously entitled as well.  I've heard some great guitar work in the leaks, point blank.
