Yeah I hear you with the Bills.  I'm a Pats fan and I was under the impression that the Bills would be the second best team in the division (may still be).  But people keep saying how terrible the division is.  I know Miami is terrible, but I don't think the Bills or Jets will be pushovers this year.

How did did the O line protect Pennington?

There's too much competition in the AFC for the Jets to be contenders.

New England
Indianapolis
Cleveland
Pittsburgh
Jacksonville
Tennessee
San Diego
Baltimore
Buffalo

I just don't see how the Jets fit in to that equation. Not only do they have to deal with those contenders, there are the other lower tier teams like Denver, Cincinnati, Kansas City, etc. that could have a minor resurgence as well. To add a cherry on top, they will be playing Miami twice and will most likely split that series.

Favre walked in to a crapshoot.

I don't think the Jets are all of a sudden a Super Bowl contender, but I do think they will be better with Favre.  And while there will be a lot of competition in the AFC, they have a real weak schedule this year, at least compared to last how the teams finished last year.  The AFC East teams play both the NFC and AFC West teams this year, the 2 weakest divisions last season.  I see them fighting for a playoff spot, finishing around 8-8 or 9-7.

Looks like Favre's days in Green Bay are numbered after all.  A deal with the Bucs seems imminent.  For Brian Griese and a draft pick.  Could be announced as early as today.

I'm not going to speculate on the CD as a whole, but I think it's silly that people think Shackler's can just be pulled and replaced like that for Rock Band. It's in there. Rock Band is bigger than GNR, once a song is programed and completed with the intent of release, then announced to be on the game, it's on the game.

Doubting that is assuming that the band and Azoff have more power than they actually do. They can't stop it now. That ship sailed likely months ago.

They're promoting it poorly, I guess, but I think we're overreacting. What do you want? A statement describing the track? That's worthless. A release date for an iTunes single? That'd be nice, but there's a whole month before the game comes out and the rest of the world will be listening then. They aren't burned out already on GNR buzz, they know how to ration it.

103.3 radio station mentioned Shackler's being on Rock Band, from ChiDem, today while driving up to Canada. They did mistakenly claim that it had leaked earlier in the year.

--- NIN live dominates all other live rock bands ---

I've gotta agree here.  I think it's far fetched to believe that there could be a backup song and they could pull "Shackler's Revenge" at the last minute.  It's already been announced, discussed, confirmed.  I know we've been dissappointed in the past, but this situation is slightly different.  If it WERE to happen, all hope would be lost.  I know as GNR fans we're all supposed to expect the worst, but I don't think even they could pull such a stunt.
Also, Communist China is right.  We're still over a month away from the games release.  I know it feels like it's been a year since the news was announced, but it really hasn't been that long.  There's still time for things to happen.  I would hope and expect the song to appear on ITunes somewhere near the games release or shortly thereafter.  If not, everyone's gonna have the opportunity to just download the track for free without an option of paying for it.  You'd think they'd be smart enough to figure that out with all the practice they've had with the leaks over the years.
And I'm not sure if I'd call it "testing the waters", but I wouldn't be surprised if the song is on the game and there's no mention of any progress on CD.  I know Axl's a freak, but I just don't think he's sitting at home waiting for us all to rise in unison and proclaim "Shackler's Revenge" as the modern day "Stairway to Heaven".  He may not have enough confidence in the material or the current lineup.  If that's the case, I don't see how any test could be passed to get the album out there.  As I said before, the leaks have received plenty of positive reviews and that hasn't helped the process out one bit.  So I don't buy the whole testing thing.  Tests have already been passed, there's more to it than just that.

So why comment on Shackler's Revenge

Because supposedly its launching the project, yet this band is as talkative as Helen Keller. Strange way of promoting a "mythical" album to me.

Bands don't wait until product is in stores to promote. They start months in advance of a release. No tours, no interviews, no talking, yet we are weeks away from getting this song.

Are they seriously gonna think the so called mystery will self promote this?

Yeah it certainly doesn't seem like the proper way to promote.  They've seemed to have missed the boat on many opportunities over the years.  I wonder if the whole Robin situation has anything to do with it.  It's kind of tough to promote an album when you're lead guitar player is off touring with a major band for the forseeable future.  Nothing's ever easy in the world of GNR.

I don't remember the Harley Davidson thing step for step, but I never thought that was finalized by the GNR camp.  Maybe I've been brainwashed and am giving them the benefit of the doubt.  I was under the impression that the ad was supposed to be a go, and then it got leaked early and then all bets were off?  Am I wrong?

Why would Axl announce a tentative release date for an album that is more than 10 years in the making only to not mention it again for a year and half almost 2 years?

The band, or the article on www.gunsnroses.com didn't say that "Shackler's Revenge" was tentatively gonna be on Rock Band 2.

I know what you're saying, but there is a difference.

I didn't imply that SR was said to be tentatively on RB2 but it's still the same thing.  If U2, Metallica, Bon Jovi or any other big popular bands announce a tentative release date for an album.  You can bet your ass that almost 2 years later that album WILL HAVE been released.  Her we are a year and a half and more than that after he released that statement on his website and not only he hasn't released the stupid album but he barely or hasn't mentioned it since.  And you say you would be surprised if SR isn't in RB 2?  I'll be surprised if IT IS RB2.  I wouldn't be surpirzed that it isn't in the game and that they don't mention anything about this ever again.  And this is another department where Azoff has failed.  By now he sould've made Axl hire better PR people.

Hey you might be right but I just don't see it.  GNR is the king of "no comment".  So why comment on Shackler's Revenge if there's even the slightest chance that they might pull back at the last moment.  I guess you're saying they threw out that tentative release date, so now they can throw out this song and we'll never hear it or why it didn't make the cut.  Again, maybe I'm naive, but I give them more credit than that.
We seriously don't know the half of it.  I know it all seems simple to us all that the album should've been released YEARS ago, but who are we to say that?  Maybe they were close with the 2001/2002 lineup, but the departure of Buckethead curtailed things.  They didn't find a replacement till 2006, then Brain left, now possibly Robin.  It's not like everything has been smooth sailing along the way.  Like James stated before, it's gotten to the point where it's hard to market the album.  No one knows who's really in or out of the band at this point, and most of the songs feature guys no longer in the band.  GNR is not Bon Jovi, Metallica, U2, or any other big band.  I think we can agree on that.  They certainly don't go by the book, so to compare them with any other band is useless.

I found this article on yahoo, while checking on my fantasy baseball teams of all things.  The caption for the title read, "Slash and Brett Favre can do whatever they want".  Here's the portion of the article that contains the Slash related stuff.

Draft Day Dilemma: the Favre problem
By Andy Behrens
Before we get to Favre, there's a quick and unnecessary story. Feel free to skip ahead, past the jump.

Last weekend, we took my seven-year-old to the family stage at Lollapalooza. It was spectacular for various reasons, not the least of which was that my daughter learned exactly what a rock star looks like. She used to think they looked like Nick Jonas, but not anymore.

We have Slash to thank. He and Perry Farrell were the headliners at the kid's stage on Sunday. Slash walked out wearing a hat that said "(expletive)" in large, black letters. He lit a cigarette, then flicked it into the crowd of children at the conclusion of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." A young boy caught it, dropped it when it singed his hand, then picked it up again and screamed excitedly.

Slash was awesome. And the kids seemed to fully appreciate his awesomeness, even though most of them were not yet 10. He just stood there, rocking, smoking, wearing the obscene hat, and a bunch of very small children loved him.

After the set, it seemed necessary to have a brief evils-of-smoking discussion with my daughter, since we'd both just lunged for a discarded cigarette. But she cut me off.

"Duh, he's a rock star. He can do whatever."

There are certain lessons that only Slash can teach your kid, and that's one of them. The rules are very different for rock stars.

In case you want to read the rest of the article, about Brett Favre.
