Coronavirus: PM declares lockdown - Britons only allowed to leave home if essential

People will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:

[...]
Shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
One form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household
Any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
Travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home

I would like to inform you that I have tested positive for #COVID19. I am doing well and in good spirits. I am following all the necessary instructions, as is my team.

For all those affected already, and for all those currently in isolation, we will get through this together.

I had to look up who this was...a rather powerful politician from France?

This is going to become the rule rather than the exception soon.

Michel Barnier is the guy who was doing EU negotiations with the UK in regards with Brexit. Since some people (including me) used to post in the Brexit thread here, I thought I would share the news.

Everything is so quiet. I take it as an opportunity to rethink our priorities. It's not showing off on social media or buying tons of luxuries. It is looking after ourselves and our loved ones. Also taking the time to look deep inside yourself and think about changes you could make.

Isis issues coronavirus travel advice: terrorists should avoid Europe

The Isis terrorist group is steering clear of Europe because of the coronavirus. Having previously urged its supporters to attack European cities, the group is now advising members to “stay away from the land of the epidemic” in case they become infected.

I haven't heard anything about children and they are almost always included in these things.

Children who reportedly got contaminated:
In Belgium: 11 babies/children under 4 y.o.
In Morocco: a 9 month old baby
Several children in France

All alive as of now, apparently. There is an article that explains that children are more resistant and so far none have died from the virus.

Coronavirus is mysteriously sparing kids and killing the elderly. Understanding why may help defeat the virus.

One of the few mercies of the spreading coronavirus is that it leaves young children virtually untouched — a mystery virologists say may hold vital clues as to how the virus works.
In China, only 2.4 percent of reported cases were children and only 0.2 percent of reported cases were children who got critically ill, according to the World Health Organization. China has reported no case of a young child dying of the disease covid-19....

Why South Korea infections are trending down and Italy's is out of control? South Koreans listened, Italians didn't:.

There was a guy in New York who was getting ready for a flight to Florida when he got the results that he tested positive... He got on the plane and went to Florida anyway. Heard a bunch of these stories.

In France, yesterday a bartender reported that people are still kissing each other to say hello, though they have been warned not to. And last night in Paris some pubs were packed with people sitting on each others' knees and drinking from each others' glasses, with many of those people attending private parties at their friends' afterwards. Hello? Social distancing, anyone? We will see where such behaviour leads to.

The stores here are still well stocked depending on what you are looking for. But pasta, rice, loo rolls  and soaps are not available. I just don't know who is stocking up as all the people I see in the shops seem to be calmly buying supplies for a few days. I don't see anyone buy stuff in huge quantities.

I bought several packs of noodles instead of pasta, managed to find a pack of loo rolls at the pound shop. If we do anything like what is done in Italy at the moment, the food shops will remain open so there will still be a way to get something to eat. As for soap I still have a lot of fancy ones from TK Maxx, so I don't need to buy any.

I was a bit puzzled as to why people buy loads of loo rolls when my first impulse would be to focus on food and drink and some meds. (Actually I tend to forget loo rolls and have to run to the corner shop to get them 16). But when my mum returned from the hospital and wasn't able to drive, my brother bought her like, 2 packs of 30 rolls, so I suppose that's something normal people do when they stock up.

Update: the French government has just announced that all pubs, restaurants, cinemas, discos as well certain shops will be closed from midnight onward until further notice. How long will it take until BoJo and Trump announce similar measures?
