I agree with you in regards to him not doing everything it takes, I definitely believe he cuts corners. AC/DC is a testament to that - he rehired his vocal coach and gave 110% at every show. Why? I don't know but I suspect it's because he understood what was at stake and knew he couldn't afford to embarrass himself.
Again I can't tell you or anyone else if he's still employing said coach but I somehow doubt it.
With that said, I stand by my comments on him being very sick at some point. That level of change just doesn't occur normally over such a short span even in the case of botox injections or "not giving a shit".
Look at the mugshot of him in 1998 and then compare that to photos from 2000/01 - it's like a completely different person. Listen to the rerecorded vocals from Live Era or Oh My God and compare those to him performing live between 2001 and 2002 (or the studio performances of the early CD songs).
Something isn't right.
I believe him becoming a recluse and coming to a complete halt in terms of using his voice to sing plays a key role in all this but it's not the whole story.

I think he sounds fine for a 55-year old hellraiser. Don't you guys think you're being a little harsh? Maybe cut him some slack.
Conspiracy time:
Also, it's obvious (to me) Axl suffered from some medical condition between the years of 1994 and 2000 which affected his voice/appearance greatly. That kind of change isn't even remotely normal.
#63 Re: Guns N' Roses » November 23, 2008: Guns N 'Roses released the album Chinese Democracy » 396 weeks ago
My feelings today are the same as they were back then; it feels like a wasted opportunity. I don't really believe we got the album which was originally envisioned as Chinese Democracy either.
To have Buckethead/Brain erased just felt like a massive kick in the balls, too.
I love the songs themselves but it's bittersweet listening to them in these iterations. When your leaked "demos" are better than the final take something is very wrong.
If I'm to be less judgemental and a bit more positive then Shackler's Revenge is the definite highlight and I think (without hearing the original) Bumblefoot did an amazing job on it.

I mean, I can't change anyone's mind but having seen them live I feel she makes the band sound a lot better. Even if most of that is down to her backing vocals.
Plus the lady looks cool and seems like a nice person.
Dizzy should up his game and cover all the keyboard bits
No offence but it's not as easy as it seems. What they do - though similar on the surface - is vastly different.

Ashba killed any remaining interest from me. I tried my best to support the guy and initially that kind of worked in his favour since Axl just sounded so damn good at the beginning in 2009/2010 (he looked worse for wear but I couldn't care less), but from there on out it was a downward spiral like we've never witnessed before.
I vividly remember the Rock In Rio "performance" in 2011... Streamed online for the world to see. That was the straw which broke the camel's back - what a fucking disaster.
Not to mention the Bridge School Benefit or that Appetite for Democracy rubbish.
Of course this wasn't down to DJ but he's the epitome of what I consider to be a stereotype rock star and I just can't deal with that type of personality. All I could ever see was a Slash copycat and I couldn't get past it.
Writing had always been on the wall with the post-1996 incarnation of GN'R but A) Robin leaving in the wake of CD's release and B) Axl picking a fight with a paparazzo in an airport before the supporting tour had even begun should've sent the alarm bells ringing at full speed.
I had a chance to see them in 2010 but opted not to. For reference I saw them 4 times in 3 different countries back in 2006. I think that speaks volumes. Really, I stopped giving a crap after we finally got the album.
The sad truth is the very day Buckethead left it was already over.
19 years were spent essentially sullying one man's career/reputation and for what? Virtually nothing of worth.

It depends of what you mean, but in terms of production it's the CD tracks which stick out like a sore thumb. You can blatantly tell how old some of the songs are and that the process of recording spanned over multiple years - derived from studio to studio.
I have always divided the songs in categories as to how good/bad I believe they are when it comes to this.
Tier 1:
Chinese Democracy
Street of Dreams
Tier 2:
Better
If the World
Madagascar
Riad N' The Bedouins
Shackler's Revenge
Sorry
This I Love
Prostitute
Tier 3:
Catcher in the Rye
There Was a Time
Tier 4:
I.R.S.
Scraped (if only for that dreadful cut and paste job)

It's a good tune. Shame we got it in such mediocre quality, though.
I also agree that it sounds like something off VGH.
I (obviously) don't know the origin of the song but they could've been recorded around the same period.
God... All of this is just making me feel depressed. Tremendous waste of potential - and time.
We're not working on all this to keep it buried.
That quote is now 18 years old. *sigh*

I think technically first Sorry thing was from HTGTH poster demolition posting the lyrics. And then we connected the dots later.
I remember that, it's hilarious in hindsight. He/she was hounded off the site and either got banned or deleted the account.
One of the great mysteries of the GN'R forum world.
#69 Re: Guns N' Roses » LEAKS THREAD » 397 weeks ago
the intro is OK, but it should never be a part of the actual track, it should always have been a separate track. now it's ridiculous to play the song and wait for 1 minute until it actually starts.
I never actually thought about it that way. You're right.
Would've been a very easy thing to do, too.

That's not Buckethead. It's a synth. Not sure if Dizzy or Pitman.
Speaking of synths, I miss the little bit which was used on CD (just before the vocals) live in 2001/2002 and the Boston promo. It added to the song.
Also preferred it when there was predominantly bass during the verses and not a bunch of muddy guitars.
Though I have to say I do like the "new" prelude/intro. It's cool.
