It ranked #48 on Nielsen Soundscan, i'm thinking particularly for rock albums, because they listed several other rock acts higher than it, like another Shinedown re-release, the new Poison hits set, and Sixx:AM's new album was #1.
So it was 48th among all rock albums, and it's sales are continuing to rise. Tbh, 48th among all rock albums - sucks.
Yeah, it's 48 on the Soundscan "Hard Music" chart, not the Billboard top 100.

That was such a great article. I remember buying it the moment it hit newsstands.
I've still got that issue in a box in my attic somewhere.

At the current stage of his career, my guess is that he is somehow shackled by the fact that he owes X-amount of albums to a major label. And getting out of that "mess" is not easy when you're butting heads over how you want things to be rolled out.
If Axl owes Universal x number of albums and wants to end his contract he might want to... I dunno... release some fucking albums? Say if he owed them three studio albums, if he had put out ChiDem 1 in 2002, ChiDem 2 in 2005, and ChiDem 3 in 2008, he would be done with his contract now and could move on to recording some new stuff with the current band.

"Working on songs" probably means that he is recording some riffs and ideas to be submitted for Axl's approval. And Ron is probably doing the same.
I really wish they'd stop having the current band fuck around with the tracks laid down by the 2002 lineup and just release all the Buckethead/Finck stuff as-is. Then let the new band come up with some of their own material.

Chinese Democracy would have made a "better" radio single if they had chopped off the long-ass intro and started right off with the guitar riff like at Rock In Rio. Don't get me wrong - the intro works great on the album and builds anticipation until it kicks in, but on radio you need to get to the fucking point.

You haven't realised before now? Axl is the reason we have countries like Syria.
Syrian Democracy starts now!

What Best Buy should have done was bundle a copy of Chinese Democracy with every copy of Rock Band 3 sold last fall, and gave a download code to play the album in the game. They would have burned through them all in a couple of weeks.

Just saw this at Metalsucks.net:
GUNS ‘N ROSES – CHINESE DEMOCRACY
Last week: 3,158
Cume: 618,7633,158 people paid $1.99 for this Best Buy dust bunny last week… which means Best Buy is exactly $6,284.42 closer to recouping the $14 million they spent on purchasing 1.6 million copies of this bad boy in 2008. Congrats! Baby steps.
