i do not think axl is an escapist or that he wallows in his sadness by allegedly having done this.
i agree very much with jessica's post in that he is 'special' and as a highly sensitive person myself, though i have different beliefs (i am not a new ager) i can understand the desire for having someone to check out the atmosphere in the room. if you are not hypersensitive you won't understand and think it is weird.
i get bitched at for 'overreacting' sometimes and i am inevitably asked 'why can't you let it go, it's no big deal' - of course to many people things are negligible, that to others can be very upsetting. the majority of the population is much less sensitive to external factors.
from what i know of sharon maynard (who is likely the person mentioned) she was part of a new age organization (arcos cielos, i think) which you can look up online if you're curious. also, she died last year.

Ok, first of all, please don't take what I'm about to say as an insult. It is not, it's just my opinion on these matters, based on personal experience. It's not even necessarily directed at you, since I have no idea who you are as a person. So I might use "you" where I maybe need to use "they" instead, but as you can imagine it paints a better, more comprehensible picture of what I'm trying to say.
See, the mistake your making (again, in my very humble opinion) is confusing your feelings and character with something measurable and scientific. It is not, it's a very personal thing that needs to be developed and nurtured correctly to match society's standards. I could understand someone who's sensitive to light have a room checked before entering to see if the blind have been closed, or something like that. However, the "external factors" you talk about (and presumably Axl needed checking out for him), that you are hypersensitive about are not measurable by any objective means.
It's your subjective take on things and like all subjective matters it is something that you need to learn to evaluate properly. Not saying that's easy or trivial but I strongly believe that it is something you can (and probably should) work at 'fixing' (for lack of a better word). All these psychics and mediums and karma cleansers, etc... strive against fixing this, screwing with your belief system. Usually for monetary reasons, but often enough just because they can't grasp the world for what it is themselves. Consorting with those people might give you a momentary boost, but in the end it postpones or even prohibits a more permanent 'solution'.
Compare it to the Indian Fakir, who can control his reaction to physical pain (very much a subjective feeling). It doesn't mean their immune to pain, but they do know how to handle it up until a certain threshold. Likewise, the average person can control their reactions to emotional stimuli fairly well up until a certain threshold. For emotionally hypersensitive people this threshold is considerably lower. Increasing this is something you can learn, something you normally do learn while you are being shaped as a person. If for some reason you miss the necessary stimuli and do end up being hypersensitive, it's much more difficult to change later on, but it is something that can be done. How is entirely up to you, but creating an environment where hypersensitivity is nurtured is obviously not the way to go about it.

I dunno. Spreading released songs on the internet is something that is bound to happen, not something they control. Spreading a pre-release leak is something that you have to take care of within your own organisation. Not mr. Skwerl should be in jail, but the guy who gave him the tracks. All skwerl did was distribute them to a wider audience, he didn't leak them - he shouldn't have had them in the first place.

And before anyone tells me it can't be done, ever try to copy a Disney VHS tape? MACROVISION. Yes, it can be broken, but it's a bitch and way f'in expensive to do so.
Hah, that's funny. A macrovision killer costs around $40. Furthermore, any random computer video capture card can strip macrovision without a problem.
Either way, don't you know that the recording industry actually moved away from copy protection no so long ago? You know why? They realized that the big losses are not people casually copying a disc for their friends, it's the guys who thrive on breaking copy protection and post the result on the net.

Dunno there, Mole. I can agree to an extent as far as music goes, but trying to extend that to everything doesn't seem to work. You even mentioned theories and algorithms. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be too excited to go buy tickets to Math & Algorithms Live Tour. Not really excited to go see Speilberg tell the story of E.T. either.
Just because something can be copied exactly - bit for bit in this age, doesn't equate to it being available in unlimited supply. You still need that initial creation. Sounds have been in unlimited supply since the birth of the universe, but it takes people like Mozart, or Hendrix, or Axl to create something pleasing from them.
Damn. Gotta run at the moment, so can't write more.
But as someone who has and probably will rely on intellectual property for my income for the rest of my life, I think you're oversimplifying an complex issue.
Obviously I'm presenting things in a slightly simplified manner .
If I'm not mistaken, you are a graphical artist, right? Do you make your art out of your own accord and try to sell that afterwards, or do you hire your services to those who need specific artistic content? If you do the latter (like I suspect most artists that try to make a living out of it do), you're already selling your skills as a service.
Obviously, there are areas where alternative ways of earning money with your skills aren't as obvious, or maybe even very difficult to find. There are probably lots of scenarios where people will be earning less money with what they do then before the digital age. C'est la vie. Economies change, and people need to realize that. Clinging to the present, or worse: the past, is the worst thing you can do. Many a company has gone out of business because of that, and my assumption is the RIAA and MPAA will need to realize this before the same fate presents itself to them.
In the end, if you really need to rely on volume for selling your IP, better make sure it's paired with something else, and the price impact is negligible (e.g. drop the price of CD's, to production + distribution cost for the physical good + a very small amount for the actual content. There are enough people who want a physical copy and a nice booklet).

its always been my view that beta, and her family, and all those other pseudo-mystic idiots, have severely hindered Axl as a person and as an artist. it has been her(and her family's) continued displays of incompetence and public 'fuck yous' to the fans, that have hampered the album's release, as well detrimentally affected public perspectives of the band. that, along with the whole psychic/introspective/past-life horseshit that Axl got caught up in in the 90's. fuck them, manipulative parasites.
This here people, is what it's all about. Mr. Axl Rose is a mentally weak and instable person and all his hanger's on and yes-men are enablers of a sick mind. Parasites, leeching of his vulnerability, worsening his state and taking away his chances of real mental an psychological redemption.

Heh, an interesting thread at long last .
Monkeychow, with all due respect, but you should realize that what you're saying is an unsustainable situation this day and age. A thing from the past. All things considered "Intellectual Property" are getting considerably more difficult to protect and things are not going to improve. Not just music & other forms of art, but also software, algorithms and formulas.
On the surface, it might seem an very communistic thing to say, but this is a good thing. Knowledge, wisdom and art should not be patented or copyrighted. Not saying scholars, thinkers and artists shouldn't earn money off of what they are doing, but they have to stop acting like they are selling goods. They're not.
The underlying reason for this (and the ultimate proof this is not a socialist stance at all) is that it all stems from the simple capitalistic principle of "supply & demand". You can't demand remuneration for something that has infinite supply. If you can make infinite exact duplicates of something, regardless of how many people want or need it, you can't charge for it. Infinite supply equals zero cost, regardless of demand.
The same is true for movies, software, formulas, etc...
The solution (for them to still earn good money) is fairly simple. They have to realize that they are not selling goods, they are providing a service. Make money from their concerts, promotional goods, etc...
Obviously, this is more difficult for movies because of the inherent cost involved in making one, but thankfully the "magic" of going to the theatre, having a night out will more thank likely be enough of a service for people to pay for.
Obviously, this is besides the current legal discussion, more sort of my point of view and where I think we should go with this. Luckily, we as Europeans have realized this already for our patent laws. If copyright law would follow suite despite pressure from our American friends of the RIAA and MPAA, we're there.

I play lead guitar in a band called "The Daunt"
Aside from that, I used to play bass in a band (not very good though), and I'm classically schooled in piano (whatever that might mean), so I play keys in The Daunt whenever the need arises. I don't like playing (or studying) covers, so I mostly tend the write my own music and a good deal of the music for my band.
I play a 1979 Gibson "The Paul", original neck pick-up, dimarzio bridge pick-up. I just bought a Line 6 Flextone III Xl two or three weeks ago. It's an amazing amp, and anyone who says the modeling doesn't sound right is a big tube sissy .

If you have any other ideas for where we can place the thread initiators username please post them up. I know for a fact that if I remove the last posters username we'll have a riot on our hands
You could put it under the thread title, provided that it isn't too long. I know for a fact that this is a pain in the ass to get working in ie and ff, but you could use an ellipsis for the longer titles.
Takes up less room on screen, and it offers a quicker representation of when something was posted. Instead of having to manually work out how old a thread is this tells ya instantly
Anyone else prefer the original format?
I'm a fan of the new format.

#750 Re: The Garden » Whats the latest Video Game you've completed » 878 weeks ago
I just got my xbox a few months ago, so I've been catching up on the good games of last year. Most recently completed Bioshock - awesome game. Now I'm doing a second run-through on hard mode because I've turn into an achievement whore.
Really looking forward to playing that once it comes out on PS3
