#71 Re: Guns N' Roses » If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you? » 104 weeks ago

I can't see how YCBM gets dropped. It's in that tier of almost essentials and for many seeing this nostalgia circus they'd be disappointed not getting it.

I have to think whatever Guns related tracks Slash was laying down extra guitar for, had to be related to the mixes they were listening to. Considering he said the batch of 3-5 leftovers were already in the can, could this be additional to those? Actually newly written material like he said he wanted to or extra Chinese leftovers on top of what he already spoke about?

Alternative theory: the reason these songs didn't come out in the timeframe he originally said is because Axl decided more wa needed and he's laying down even more guitar for the tracks he already spoke about.

I'm keeping my expectations low for tomorrow. All common sense would say A) the US is their most lucrative touring market because that's where they can charge the highest ticket prices B) the sales in that market are slow so therefore C) Use your headline slot at one of the world's most famous music festivals to shadow drop new music and generate buzz for your NA tour.

This is Guns N' Roses in 2023 though. Common sense doesn't apply.

Apparently there's a remix of TWAT that never leaked.

#74 Re: Guns N' Roses » 2023 Tour Dates » 106 weeks ago

Also he did the screams on TWAT justice tonight. Worth looking that one up on YouTube.

Glasto would be a cool place to surprise launch a 5 song EP of new material. Could the band actually do something that cool?

I've been burned too many times to hope but we'll see. Maybe Axl has finally gotten bored - he's been doing almost the same set for 7 years straight now. Longest run of his career.

The hype for Prostitute was insane. I remember it getting descrived as "fire and ice". It was the big gun that everyone was waiting to hear.

In the end, it was a good song. Some might say its great. But it had no chance of living up that hype.

The General will be the same. When/if we get to hear it, just go in hoping for a song that's good and you won't be disappointed.

There's this great interview clip of Matt Damon explaining why this happened to movies from the Hot Ones interview show.

Tl;dr streaming killed dvd sales and that killed creativity in the movie industry.

Honestly it's now at the point where if you want good drama and high quality acting - prestige tv is where you've got to look for it now, because studios will still greenlight new ideas in that space.

The link you posted....while it does sound good....might be the best AI Axl yet...is similar to the CCR song.

The rate at which these are improving... actually has me worried that deep fakes etc. could become a problem sooner than we think. Already imagining the shit that could get pulled in 2024 with this tech...

There is one wrinkle to the unload the vault when he passes away angle.

Who does he leaves it to? TB assumedly but could be his sis. Then does whoever gets it want to release it? How much of it? Or do they "respect" Axl's legacy and leave it vaulted....

Oddly, I could see CD 20th anniversary being the one Axl himself wants to do most with. Issue is it anyone else involved (Slash, Duff, label) will want to do anything for it.

the main problem is this:  they don't have enough material for another GH/compilation album to restore the brand.  I mean they can't just put out Guns N' Roses GH 1995-2015 or whatever.

And that's his problem for only releasing one album in 30 years.

Agreed completely. The vault for the classic era really doesn't have anything of serious note left to move the needle.

Yeah...the tiny discog is a huge problem when it comes to this. It's a unique situation... because out of all the major bands/artists at this late stage of the game unloading their vault, their discography is the smallest. This isn't a situation like with Floyd or Mac where there's almost too much material. In their case, they have to break it down into specific eras!

Good point on nothing to show for a 1995-2015 period. 94 is when it all comes crashing down....and all the band has to show for its final two years is TSI and a Stones cover.

The Chinese Democracy saga....while interesting to us hardcore fans.....the world at large does not care and will never care. Other than playing a handful of songs from it, they officially act as if it doesn't exist. Remember the lead up to Vegas and Coachella how they removed all mention of CD from the official site?

GNR Canon is 87-93 and whatever Chinese songs Slash and Duff contribute to.

If they could get professional management and the label wants to play ball and do a proper unloading of the archives.....

They can definitely release a two disc GH/Best of.  It wouldn't even need new songs on the track list....they have enough old material to make it work.

Since the AFD box set was botched top to bottom, this allows for the possibility of one more huge release in our lifetime.... probably 2027.

Fuck...just copy Floyd and call it the Immersion series...

AFD

Obviously the focus needs to be live material. A couple discs of demos and the rest is various concerts... probably The Ritz shows.

Price it at $200-300 bucks. It'll sell out.

Lies

I still say you can do something with this. It might need One In A Million excluded...but he talked about doing this 20+ years ago.

A 2 disc deluxe anniversary edition.

UYI

Both I and II Remix albums...which is just gathering dust. Release it...it'll sell a hell of a lot more than that box set did. This could actually be a stand alone release. If going the box set route, they already have more concerts that were left off the box set. They also have a treasure trove of demos.

TSI

The version of the album with Izzy and the two unreleased covers with new Axl vocals.

Once they properly do that....yeah it's bone dry.

There's always Perfect Crime but I doubt they will ever put in the work to get that project off the ground.

There is one other thing and it's two huge IFs.

If there are tracks, in some sort of demo form from 94-96 and new vocals can be recorded for them, they could do the lost 94-96 album.

The only other trick up their sleeve is what Slash talked about last year, recording an actually new record with him, Duff and Slash.

The CD vault, us hardcores want it - it's only worth tapping into when Axl retires from touring/dies.
