#71 Re: Guns N' Roses » That Metal Show, Trunk/GN'R Discussion » 739 weeks ago

i thought the TMS guys did a great job. overall i thought it was a cool interview.

the only thing i did not like was bumblefoot. i seriously got 4 texts from friends that had some version of "WTF?!?!" that did not come off funny at all. it was totally awkward. i don't know why they showed it. for about 95% of the people watching, this is their first time seeing any other band members up close and personal and he just totally dropped the ball.

but like one of my friends said, "even Axl seemed totally sane after seeing that bumblebee dude. is he really in the band???"

gagarin's suggestion is perfect. it's clear how many actual songs were played, and you also get a sense for jams/solos. that's what i do when i send setlists to friends.

#73 Re: Guns N' Roses » Bach to open three shows for GNR » 739 weeks ago

loaded will be in Germany the last several days of November.

i'm shocked Bach is only doing 3 dates. i would have guessed he'd do the 6 shows from NJ on the 17th through camden, NJ on the 26th.

the show before the 17th is chicago, and the show after the 26th is canada, so bach or not, i thought it would be the same group opening all 6 of those shows.

I always heard it was the venue and/or promoter that pulled the plug in Philly, do I have that wrong?

As far as him being late, I've said it many times; it is what it is. For me, I've got far too many things to worry about in life before worrying about things I can't change. That goes for a lot of things in this world, the least of which might just be "what time Guns N' Roses goes on stage"

where did you hear that from? i never heard that, or any other explantion, that came from any kind of a credible source.

honestly, the promoter "pulling the plug" right before a show makes no sense to me.

the venue and/or city pulling the plug makes some sense (although like i said, i never heard that from any type of reliable source). i'm not sure if there is a curfew law in philly. i know gnr came on stage around 10:30 back in 1991 and played until past 2am. that was a rough day in school the next day!

i agree that you just have to accept the lateness. two things drive me crazy though....

1. he's NOT always late. there have been a few situations where he has come on at 10. so it makes it tough to plan for because you have to be there in case he comes on at 9:45.
2. some venues are very strict about it so they end up getting a show that is not up to par with what the band probably wanted to do (Reading, Dallas).
i also wonder if this is what caused the cancellation in philly - he was about 30 minutes away....who know, he may have been planning to go on at midnight but the venue pulled the plug.

what is up with the volume of Axl's vocals???  it seems like this is a recurring complaint at all of these shows.

my buddy went to the Atlanta show. not a die-hard at all (he actually got free tix - he works for CNN). and he said that thorughout the entire show his vocals were too low and at times could barely hear him.

Problem with CD songs, most sound pretty terrible live. the ones they play are the ones they pull off well and Better is always hit or miss.

TWAT,Shacklers,Prostitute are terrible live and IRS is Shogtun Blues level bad so have no interest in hearing it live anyway

Reminds me of Motley Crue's The Dirt book and how they talk about touring after Generation Swine and what a blast it was playing the old songs but felt robotic and empty doing the electronica stuff off Swine or something like that

i don't think CD songs sound terrible, but they don't sound better live than on the album.

part of why i love GnR (and most of my favorite bands) is that they generally sound better live. it's not the talent of the band, its the nature of the songs. AFD was straight-up hard rock, and the attitude and passion of those songs was even more clear when played live. and they almost sounded better when the songs were not played "perfect."

that was true for many songs on the UYI albums as well. because even when there was other "stuff" going on in those songs, at the core was still a great kick-ass rock song, and that's what came through live.

CD songs rely on alot of other "stuff" and they are somewhat challenging to listen to at times because of how much is going on in each song. therefore, they don't translate as well to a live stage, but i still think they sound good.

i love "sorry" but if the first time i heard it was at a concert, i wouldn't have loved it as much. yet back in '91, Perfect Crime was an instant favorite of mine the first time i heard it, which was live before the album came out.

i think the set lists have been killer. alot of people were begging for Estranged. check. many said they should play alot from CD. check. play more than 2 hours. check.

all gnr fans - casual and us die-hards - are lying to ourselves if we say the set list is no good.

any complaints should be minor ones. the band does not deserve any kind of major criticism for this tour.

my minor complaints would be:
1. too many solos (i think it kills the flow of the show. this was true in '91 as well. although the wild horses jam was killer.)
2. too many slow songs. it's almost one for one (rocker to ballad) after the first 4 songs. i'd prefer a 4-1 ratio overall. i'd drop don't cry and KOHD and replace with My Michelle, OTGM, Scraped, SR, IRS.
3. mixing up a portion of the set list would be cool. just to keep you surprised and not knowing what to expect. would also love to hear other songs mixed in from all their albums.

but again, these are not so much complaints, just what i would aks for in a perfect world. i have thoughts like this after most shows i go to. we can come up with suggestions for every band out there. doesn't mean the band is being lazy or doesn't care or is calling it in. so like i said, the band does not deserve major criticism.

neemo - i was disappointed to see people taking cheap shots at you. in all the message boards i have ever visited, you have always been one of the coolest, fair-minded posters i have seen.

i've expressed my views about this board before. while its great that you can say anything, a number of posters just turn it into very boring board. and to see people giving you (of all people) shit for your opinions, well, it kinda solidified my opinion of this place. and it sure seemed contradictory to what this board represents itself as.
