Robin is on perhaps for like three notes lol
I know lol and that still enrages me that AXL did that to Robin. Perhaps would've been such a big mainstream commercial hit on radio and the charts if Perhaps had Robin's solo and not Slash.

Easy! in hard skool and absurd slash it has the same sound, it is no longer that classic gn'r sound, it doesn't sound so bluesy, it sounds more hard rock somewhat distorted, and even though they are not such direct songs it makes the same impressions, sound when crushing, its sound when you press the pedal is unmistakable! And finck in this i love for example strident, sharp and staccato sound and in street of dreams likewise, it hatches like slash but staccato the notes and those are the differences that make me give myself Realize that it's slash and not finck, it's cool to have different points of view!
imo Hard Skool solo sounds like a classic rock riff from Slash. The Robin Hard Skool solo is newer rock. Something we haven't heard before. The same with Perhaps for Robin. And Oklahoma. And Zodiac 13. This I Love is another type of rock solo nobody has heard before. It's a new type of solo and a new type of style. I wouldn't say it is how you're describing it. I'd say This I Love is more like November Rain EVOLVED for something new and fresh. And Street Of Dreams climbs the scale and pops. That's what the Monster solo sounds like it's doing. The Monster solo climbs the chord scale and pops too. That tells me that is Robin. I haven't heard Slash climb the note scale before and then make the sound POP. That's a Robin specialty. That's what Street Of Dreams, Better, TWAT, and This I Love does.

I’d probably compare more with the recent releases than classic stuff. Does Monsters sound like Slash from UYI era? Not really. Does it sound like Slash from Absurd, Hardschool and Perhaps? It does to me.
Could still be Finck or even BH of course but my gut says Slash. Less sure on the General but the voice box is a Slash signature.
Who do you think does the solo on the General? Robin or Buckethead?
lol I think the same for those songs but with Robin's versions on Perhaps and Hard Skool. Not Absurd.
The Hard Skool solo from Slash sounds like a classic rock riff. The Perhaps solo from Slash sounds bluesy at the start and then it sounds like he's trying to imitate Robin on the rest of it.
The General and Monsters feels more like Chinese Democracy.

without the intention of offending anyone. It's slash because it sounds on the recording, recognizing the sound of a musician you like is not easy, but you know it when you are able to do it. I recognize many other guitarists easily and this case is no different It's slash, duff and brain on the drums. What do I base it on? What I hear! Robin staccatoes the notes and has a more piercing, distorted and strident sound!
You're not offending me. I respectfully disagree. Robin's Chinese Democracy solos don't sound distorted or piercing. Robin's solos for Guns N Roses are modern classic rock. Robin also has some industrial sound to his work. I hear Robin's classic rock guitar sound in both The General and Monsters. Slash is classic rock. But Slash is more like old school classic rock. Robin is new school classic rock. I hear Robin's distinct sound on these demos. Not only do these demos sound like 2004 or 2006 but The General for example has Robin's industrial sound on it. The same with Monsters. I don't hear the classic Slash Guns N Roses sound on them. Name me a Guns N Roses song you can compare to the General and Monsters if it Slash? I'm struggling to name one myself. There are many songs from Robin I can compare to them that tells my gut it is Robin.

It's Slash on both tracks
What do you base it on? I don't hear Guns N Roses songs Slash has recorded in The General or Monsters. But I hear songs Robin has recorded like Street Of Dreams, Better, TWAT, This I Love, Perhaps, Hard Skool, Zodiac 13, and Oklahoma in both The General and Monsters.

The General, I’m convinced that is Finck etc
What makes you come around to it being Slash and not Robin on Monsters? I think the Monsters solo towards the end is Robin. Sounds like Street Of Dreams and other Chinese solos. Do you hear that in Monsters?
I agree that Robin Finck is The General. The solo towards the end of The General is classic Robin Finck!
It would help if a source would throw us a bone and confirms who does the solos on these demos.
You could be right … there are some very sort of cliched sounding Slash licks on Monsters but it could be imitation. I’m more inclined to think it’s Slash present day - not particularly inspired or inspiring .
That said the songs are pretty good - definitely growers
Both of them need stronger endings - they just sort of end abruptly and out sort of end with a whimper
I keep hearing Robin on Monsters. I've heard all of Slash Appetite/Illusions stuff. I don't hear Slash. The Guns N Roses Slash sound isn't resonating for me on these demos. And the demos themselves feel like nugnr demos from the 2000's era. It doesn't sound like stuff that is recent. You would think AXL would have recent songs kept under lock and key with the tightest security. But with nugnr demos like The General and Monsters there isn't the same security. It's a possibility The General and Monsters are demos the hoarders have been holding onto for a very long time and with the vinyl delay issue they thought this was the perfect time to drop them. That's my theory.

misterID wrote:General is fantastic. For me it was everything I expected (knew it was gonna be in the vein of Shacklers, Scraped and Sorry, a very tight, non epic song). Just wished we got a longer solo and better intro/outro and no tin can effect vocals
TIL probably took the place of Atlas on CD because Finck lobbied hard to get it on the album. Catcher might be the culprit also cuz I don’t think it was ever intended for CD until it leaked, and the tracklist was very influenced by the leaks
Bingo! While I enjoyed every second of the leaks, ultimately they hurt the album in terms of track listing. I'm in the same boat as James. The songs we got from the village sessions and now these tasty little treats, are exactly what I was expecting from Chinese as an album. I love the UYI3 style songs. They are great tracks. But these SOG ,Monsters, General, and all of the voxless instrumental type tracks turn me on something fierce. I think if Axl just would have gotten his rocks off with a solo project we could have had the best of both worlds. We would have that trip-hop/experimental material on Axl's project and then the hardskools and twats on the guns record.
Either way I'm giddy to have so many vintage usernames pop back up into the discussion. Even some of the known "hoarders" are at least participating in the conversations about these new tracks. I think at this point in time, even the hoarders are starting to show some empathy towards getting closure to the Chinese era for the fan base.
I think closure of the Chinese era would be a Chinese BOX release of everything ever recorded from nugnr. Instrumentals and tracks with vocals.

The General is a masterpiece. Best song made by nu guns.
Unless Slash is attempting to emulate Finck and BH he is not playing on this track. No way.
I don't think Slash is on The General or Monsters. I think it's Bucket N Robin. But the finished vinyl versions will have Slash.
