I think it's way too early to call this a hit. I can't see it getting anywhere near the radio play CD did in 2008 or Shadow did in 2018 (both #5 on the mainstream rock charts). Both Absurd and Hard Skool did well on the Itunes chart when they were released, if Perhaps is doing better it's probably because it's being promoted a hell of a lot more. From what I've seen Hard Skool had the better reception from casuals. This track is less accessible and will not resonate with everybody. People expressing dislike are not necessarily trolls.

Both Hard Skool and Perhaps are sonic messes to me. Hard Skool has Axl buried too low in the mix with an echo on his voice, and keyboards that are barely audible to the extent of being pointless.
Perhaps has that extra piano at the end of the verses that sounds out of place, like it was being played for a different song in a different room. I like the low voice Axl uses in the chorus but it's too low in the mix. No way this song makes a dent in radio when it's difficult to understand what's being sung in the chorus.

misterID wrote:Went back and read Brain’s comments on Seven and he turned it and The General in before their first show. The way he described the demo sounds pretty much like Circus. Just an abstract and crazy piece of music around a drum beat. It would make sense they combined it. They did that with Shacklers and Robin talked about Axl cannibalizing demos
I'll go to my grave saying Better was initially two song ideas merged into one.
The problem with Brain statements is he said so much wacky shit back then...a lot of it was probably trolling. Fans used to email him constantly.
Brain said this on an interview on the AFD podcast a few years back though. I do put his "Seven is an epic ballad" comments in the trolling category.

Since they released it to radio last night, they should have officially released it at the same time worldwide like Absurd, instead of this time zone shit. Articles announcing it's release it are literally linking to the demo on Youtube. Another fuck up though par for the course.
And lying about it being a brand new song...why? All the articles announcing it was coming a few backs already mentioned it was a CD era demo, as do the articles announcing it's release today.

I still think Hard Skool was re-recorded in 2019. Slash is often not great with dates and whatnot, and may have forgotten some of the recordings were pre-pandemic. That guy leaked that Slash was recording at Axl's house in April 2019 and even showed a picture of the amp he would be using. In September 2019 they were rehearsing Hard Skool before the first show on 9/21 and it was on the setlist, I think it was already good to go.

I seriously doubt that Fortus made that comment without proof. People have been claiming all sorts of shit this week. At the very least there should be a screenshot, and even then there's lots of trolls that fake that shit in this fandom. Brain specifically mentioned composing Seven at the same time as The General. This was way past the composition of D-Tune.

Girlfriend? Doubt that. Maybe another escort.

You are officially not allowed to discuss that this even happened on the GNR Reddit. Someone on Mygnr got this message from a mod:
Message from mod:
“The track was not yet intended to release, regardless of this mistake by the distributors. The actions of the leakers and people who spread awareness of the accidental release directly affects what happens in the GN'R camp, in negative ways.
The PSA posted at the top of the subreddit was an attempt to keep bans at a minimum. Unfortunately, your actions do fall under what was warned against. However you received only a temporary ban because though it is rule-breaking behavior, it is obviously not done out ill-intent or maliciousness.”
This is the PSA they violated: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Anybody who does not adhere to Rule 2 of this subreddit will get banned
This includes anybody who posts links, anybody who gives details on where to find leaks, anybody who spreads awareness of them, anybody who asks to DM files, or other such behavior. Consider this both a reminder and warning.
What a fucking joke. Rumor has it that during the 2019 leaks someone from the GNR camp was made a mod, not sure if they still are though.

Much clearer recording has dropped. The Robin-Slash transition is really awkward.

I guess Axl hasn't lost his love of cutting up solos.
