I don't have long to post but I do want to say that this was the best music performance I've ever seen in my life. These guys were all over it, and Travis was working so hard and hitting every note. And they played a wicked setlist, starting with Walk, I Wonder, 2 x 4 ... and just going through so many tunes. 6 songs from For My Friends, which live really fit in, and a lot of old tunes. They even played Holyman and closed with Mouthful of Cavities and The Pusher!
The crowd was pretty big and really into it, the floor during Galaxie, which closed the set before the encore, was going nuts. I got there early enough to be up close, 3-4 people were directly in front of me closer to the band and that's not much. Brad even pointed me out once, probably because I'm a big guy and was digging it like crazy.
Travis dedicated the new song Hypnotize to Layne Staley which I thought was cool, and he gave a little speech about how he's not replacing Shannon and no one can, he's just here to keep it going. He interacted with the crowd really well and his voice was dead on. His screaming during the break of Time was unreal.
The guys were nice enough to come to the front of the club and sign stuff for the fans (someone brought a kazoo with them
) so I got a BM tee-shirt with Brad, Travis, Glen, Rogers, and Chris's names on it. Sweet.
Ok well I'm going to go take my Physics final.
Hey, something they did at the show I was at and wondered if it happened every time or if it was just something that happened that way that night.-
Travis came out with a mask on for the first three songs, which were old Blind Melon songs. For the forth song, which was one of the new songs, he took the mask off. Does he do that every time, or was it just a coincidence that he was unmasking for his first song.
Glad you dug the show. I'm hoping to check them out here again at the end of July.

I always thought they should've got Triple H to play the angry hulk. Similar to Lou Ferigno. Not a fan of the CGI, didn't bother with the first one. Glad to hear this one's at least better though.
I thought I read somewhere that Triple H was up for "Thor". I don't know if they've actually decided that yet or not, but it would be a good reason why they didn't use him for Hulk.

they could do a double reunion tour
:O
Opening, Skid Row, headliners Guns N' Roses lol
one can dream
If that happens, but you take out Skid Row and make it Soundgarden instead, I'll fly to Antarctica for it.

No way does this band ever tour with GNR. If a reunion happens, there'll most likely be no opening act or if there is, a more current band.
100% agree.
I can't see there being much interest in Skid Row getting back together. Retro might be 'in' right now, but i think SR may be a little too retro.
That's not saying they dont' have some good tunes though.
Yeah. I think just within the GnR community it is given much more cred than it would deserve, because a lot of us link the two bands for obvious reasons. I don't like Skid Row and I can even get the link.
I don't think it's really "too retro" though, it's just that Skid Row didn't have any more hits than Warrant, and way less hits than Poison. They're all touring playing fairgrounds at best right now. That's about the best Skid Row could hope for. Small theaters or big clubs.

No comedian ever, maybe even no entertainer, has or ever will be consistantly brilliant for that long.
You know how you can tell when a moth farts?

To anyone who thinks these songs sound dated, could you fully explain what you mean?
I get people saying the opening of Chinese Democracy sounds "80's", but other than that I don't get it. I think these songs don't really sound like anything, and frankly, I think that's more of a liability than an asset.
Sorry to have not cited specific instances of people saying that, but I think they were spread out between threads.
I've used the term for years, simply because I've heard so much music that sounds like the so called "breakthrough" sound on these CD sessions.
The Praxis influence(early 90's) is clearly evident here, and the two new songs could have been placed on a Bucket album in 1998. The hip hop stuff is generic, and even the interesting sounds coming from Mother Goose sound straight from the 70s.
Its a mish mash of genres, but they are doing a damn good job at it.
Ok, that makes more sense, I was taking "dated" as songs as a whole... and for exactly the reasons you said, it didn't make sense to me.

F.U.C.K. sucked and I never bought it. I still haven't heard Balance. Seriously.
Wow, seriously. I think F.U.C.K. is fantastic (I won't defend the name though). It's to me a perfect balance of poppy, with great music, and good songwriting.
And I think Balance is hugely underrated. I remember a lot people giving it shit because it's more Van Hagar with songs that have "love" in the title, but that never bothered me, then when the song from the greatest hits/Twister came out it looked like they had more coming like that... but they were done. It was kinda the opposite of Gn'R breaking up really, instead of going out with a whimper, they went out with a bang.
For the record, I love the fist solo album Hagar put out after VH too. "Marching To Mars", but it might just be that that record came out at a time where I consider it part of a soundtrack to a certain portion of my life..

IF BH is so talented and everybody knows he's so much better than everybody else, why isn't he more popular? God knows he releases enough music and it's easy enough to get, so why isn't there a huge BH following in the mainstream? If ANYBODY outside of Axl should have boosted his popularity as a result of the leaks, wouldn't it be BH? So what happened? Certainly the whole world can't be missing out on his brilliance?
Talent doesn't equal record sales, you can look at Pop music througout history to see that.
Buckethead is a more "talented" guitar player than Slash, I don't think there's any question.
That said, I prefer Slash's approach(for lack of a better word) to guitar.
I like Dream Theater, but most of the time I'd rather listen to Buddy Guy.
It's pretty much the same thing. Axl doesn't want this to be a straight ahead rock record, that's pretty obvious. As has been said, comparisons are inevitable, but even without a completely different band, how much does "Metallica" (or maybe a more accurate comparison would be St. Anger since there was some experimenting there) sound like "Kill 'em All".
