#901 Re: The Sunset Strip » Metallica new song 'Hardwired', new album Nov. 18th » 449 weeks ago

I tried listening to this again and got bored / annoyed and turned it off.

"Atlas" and "Hardwired" are decent enough as far as simplistic thrash metal goes.

But as far as I know, we have Freese to thank for introducing Tommy (and Bucket) into Guns.

Ah, yes, you're quite right.

I'd be all for his return, of course, just don't see it happening sadly.

Easy now, killer.

The only drummers that I would be jacked to see ever replace Frank if it had to be would Josh Freese (has a shit ton of shit always going on so unlikely) or Brain.

Brain is basically retired from drumming. Freese was barely in it back in the late 90s with Tommy pressing his buttons to do the gig, let alone now when it's a nostalgia act when could probably command more money on the open market as a session drummer and never leave LA.

I don't like being a negative nancy but Axl sounds quite poor.

I wonder what he meant by "put an end to it". There are a lot of ways to interpret that.

It's hardly fresh analysis to state that Chinese Democracy was the leaks record but I've always felt that Azoff would release the most conservative material possible and do his best to stroke Axl's ego and put him in positions to succeed. This would mean holding the wilder / experimental stuff off and pushing back and Old GN'R stuff, i.e. Jackie Chan, for his future harvest once he got the Chinese Democracy material out of the vault and the AFD5 re-united.

We know that the Bumble/Ashba era band were working on Oh My God and Silkworms. I think those are underrated tracks but that they dumbed them down with the revisions. It makes sense to stop repainting and reworking 10 year old songs, which could easily fit within Tommy's comments.

I think there are compelling arguments to the remaining Chinese Democracy mythos being just that - a myth.

That said, I do wonder about the Beltrami tracks, as they were touted as the best of the (new) bunch and The General intro was played as early as 2002, which could suggest it was a pivotal set piece for the project.

I can't speak with precision about drumming or music in general.

That said, Steven's style was very punky and raucous but I've seen other drummers, i.e. Brain give him props for his talent and the actual complexity to those songs. Maybe it was Freese. I can't recall. Sorum's style really benefitted the big soundscape epics of the Illusions records on the other hand. I'm sure Adler could've done nicely in places but drum solos notwithstanding, I like what Sorum brought to the table.

There's a similar schism with the Chinese era. Brain was undoubtedly the hip-hop style drummer which worked well on some tracks and synched well with Buckethead but the early material, namely the stuff that Freese was present for, lends itself to Freese and the Adler school of drumming.

I doubt Freese would return and Brain is essentially retired from drumming, which leaves us with Frank.

It was a nice moment when he joined GN'R onstage last year. I think that's it for him, though.

It probably doesn't matter without new music but it'd be nice if they had a different drummer.

I respect Frank's hustle and devotion. He earned the gig. I just don't really get into his drumming at all.

You gotta make the time. It's like balancing your checkbook. You need to make a concerted effort and monitor it constantly.

I drink protein shakes fairly regularly. Good for when you're in a hurry and/or as something to bring to work.

If you told me in 2002 we'd have 1 album in 14 years and that band would fall apart, I'd have said thanks future man and proceeded to never invest another second in Gn'R.

I find social media retweets and that whole operation about as edgy as a dull butter knife but Slash expressing his opinion may be the first shred of integrity this tour has going for it.

And comparing anti-Trump sentiment to One In A Million is a giant false equivalence, if there ever was one.
