too right James 14

gone are the days when there was good natured disagreement and curiosity

hell, even AxlRoseVen making a re-appearance would be something?

at least the old nutswingers could formulate an argument no matter how deranged

#902 Re: Guns N' Roses » More leaks soon? » 898 weeks ago

another reason the fanbase was that much more enthused in years gone by has to be the fact we only had a shitty IRS demo and some live versions of Blues, Maddy and CD (well Silkworms and Rhiad too)

now we have an albums worth of studio material. Some of the gloss and mytique is simply not there the way it was between 2002 - 2005

Cant believe we don't have a thread here already for them. As some of you know, Soundgarden is my 2nd favorite band, and in some ways even eclipse GNR in my opinion. Anyways, started this thread because I've been listening to Down on the Upside tonight. I have a new appreciation of this album. It was a pretty bold direction. Never bothered with this album much over the years, and for some reason only concentrated on the Louder than Love-Superunknown period. I remember listening to this album and being disappointed in it and gave up. Following up Superunknown was impossible though. They set their own bar too high.

Its great though. Wide range of music here, and Shepard really stands out on the album. If you haven't heard this album, definitely go download it.

Oh, and......

Applebite
Boot Camp
Overfloater

blow these Chinese Democracy sessions out of the water. Cornell, please reunite this band.

If you've never heard Superunknown, grab that one as well because its one of the greatest albums ever made.

huge SG fan and this was certainly a departure and much overlooked

they were a phenomonal band on so many levels - Superunknown is hard to top alright, but in many ways Down on the upside showed a lot more sublety and scope

why they arent given more props is beyond me - one of the giants IMO

Intriguing stuff

Time for the hoarders to front up and stop being so selfish and greedy

what possible joy could you get from listening to a song no one else has and ths being unable to discuss and share it?

Bizarre - music should be for everyone

#905 Re: Guns N' Roses » Shackler's Revenge: REALLY confirmed » 900 weeks ago

so, if this is the first single, when can we expect to hear it?

surely it will have aired before the game debuts?

#906 Re: Guns N' Roses » Rumor: Unheard GNR song on Rockband 2 » 900 weeks ago

wow. Some news finally.

Possibly the most significant development ever in the CD saga? Other than the proclamations in 06that it would be out that year I guess.

But here is something tangible that indicates marketing towards a release.

And I am starting to think that maybe BH is back in the fold.  It's the only way to launch this CD thing with any credibility

#907 Re: Guns N' Roses » A Random Forum Post about Finck » 900 weeks ago

When I saw them play in Auckland last year, the defining moment was Patience - the song was a highlight of the set for me - Axl delivered as did everyone.

Solo time and Finck steps up to the plate. Words can't describe how he butchered it. The most simplest and melodic of solos was turned into a tuneless, shapeless, off key mess. All he needed to do was play a few low key blues licks. But no

I won't even go into his 'solo' which was horrific.

I like his solo on Better - but how many takes did he do to get it sounding like that in the stidio I wonder?

The Blues- nice note selection, but his timing is all off on it - it doesn't flow how it should. Listen to Estranged solos or even BH or TWAT. Thats the standard.

I saw Finck for the first time in 2000 with NIN. He was awesome - but like someone said, he stuck to what he knew and does well - punching out industrial riffs. The guy is not a lead guitar player, I'm sorry.

#908 Re: Guns N' Roses » Entertainment Weekly suggests GN'R may perform at VMA's » 900 weeks ago

I agree there's alot of speculation and wishful thinking here - nonetheless there are some encouraging and exciting developments here.

Hopefully this time, at last, Axl is ready to launch this baby.

As for BH returning? Hard to see how anything points to that? Other than an old song of his apparently bearing a resemblence in title? I really don't see him being a big draw for Rock Band to leverage off - Slash however, would be something else.... as would a GNR reunion on the MTV awards

MTV have been there done that with this incarnation of GNR (well the 2002 lineup at least) - would they have that band back? I think not - theyd have the original band back in a heartbeat though

Also, I agree with the concept that CD should (and probably will) be marketed, as in the NIN and to a lesser extent QOTSA mould. Axl being GNR essentially. You cant tell me you're going to send BBF , Frank and Dizzy out to bat for this thing - nice guys I'm sure but they lack star quality. Which admittedly BH had in spades ..

Either way, going to be some interesting times ahead

#909 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Elimination- Round 2 » 902 weeks ago

I've voted If the World. A turkey in my view, closely followed by Madagascar.

Am surprised by some of the negative reactions to Song #2. Save for a few annoying dated techno flourishes, this is easily one of the stronger leaks I feel

#910 Re: Guns N' Roses » Time Magazine considers the leaks Chinese Democracy » 902 weeks ago

are we sure these are demos?

if the source was from Universal surely that would indicate completion?
