#901 Re: The Sunset Strip » The Ultimate Showdown #2...WINNER ANNOUNCED » 888 weeks ago

I have never gotten the Sammy hatred among the masses.  I dig Roth, don't get me wrong, but I think (as I mentioned and Slinger said) the writing is hugely better with Sammy.

I really think when everyone else sees Roth, they just think- great front man, classic sound of Van Halen(which I can't argue with).

But when I see Roth, I think- Skat, lame spoken word bits, BATON TWIRLING, and I don't get why more people don't say Hagar.

But on that same line, Vince is the classic sound of Motley Crue and a good frontman, but Corabi wipes the floor with him from every angle, and I'll never understand how everyone doesn't think that... and most people don't seem to (but that's an arguement for another day).

Oddly enough, I know a bunch of people who say they really like Sammy solo, but don't like him with Van Halen.  I never got that one either.

They're right.  The movie was supposed to be a companion to the book, because of the popularity/talk about it at the time.

I've moved twice since I read that book.  By the time the movie comes out they're going to have to remind people why it's called The Dirt.

By the way, if you haven't read that book, you should.

I'm kidding.

But you aren't far off the mark James!!  It's hard to talk about anything else when FINALLY we have real GNR news again.  So...BUMP!!  I know we have had some new sign ups here at Evolution so cast your votes everyone.  Hagar is getting KILLED!! 9-1 as of now.  Although I agree with the votes everyone needs to have a say so that is a VH fan one way or the other.  Rock the Vote!!  (insert Jessica Simpson pic in a patriotic tiny bikini eating a hot dog and waving a flag)   16

Wait... do I have to change my vote to Roth to see that...  because I will.

A friend of mine saidn "too much going on" after hearing Madagascar for the 1st time quite a while ago, so you pretty much hit the nail there.

Like I siad in the chat, Gn'R (Axl) needs to realize that this version of GnR is a Prog Rock band and isn't going to set the world on fire with any of this.  People who like it will buy it, and they'll get the added sales out of curiosity/nostalgia.

I think the songs are good, and Chinese Democracy comes out and I'll be there on the first day, but...  It's just a rock record.  That's all it can be.

I'm evidently the 1st (shit, maybe only) to say Hagar, but I really think they got a lot better with him.  I have nothing against Roth, it was super fun, but I think the songs got better with Sammy.

By the way, that album with Cherone is totally underrated.  It was VH trying to be something they're not, but it's actually pretty fucking good.

believe it or not all i've ever heard is Aftermath and Let it Bleed...and let it bleed is just amazing...ive been meaning to branch out to some more stones albums but jsut havent gotten around to it....which one should i go for next? i planned on the Next Stones purchase to be Sticky Fingers

shich album has sympathy and paint it black...i've always liked ruby tuesday as well///so preferablly i'd like to have at least one of those tracks

madagas is right with the four albums, but I'd say you should pick up Beggars or Exile before Sticky Fingers.  Sticky fingers is exellent, but I thing Beggars and Exile are the two best Stones albums by quite a stretch.

Ashame, he was a great player for so many years, but it is time. What better way to leave than the SB victory they just had?!

Yep it probably was time. He still could have gone another year and been one of the best Defensive Ends in the game, but what better way to go out, than on top.

Jon Runyan had some really nice comments about him, which was nice to hear, since they were huge rivals and all.

It really is fitting that he goes out the same year as Favre too.  As respect for handing him a record.

(sorry man, I couldn't resist.  Seriously, one of the best ever whether he retired this year, five years from now, or five years ago.)

well the flea and navarro put an awsome sound on first single...and alanis was coming off some serious personal isssues so she was very emotional

Which leads to the same question...

Why bother doing it? I just never understood the need for this record, and after listening to it straight through, it boggles the mind.

Didn't she acually do an Mtv Unplugged too?  Where there would be the added passion of the songs being live... and acoustic.  Where it would make sense.

(Edit to answer my own questions: Yes she did do the Mtv unplugged, and released it as an album.)

Wasn't this originally released just as Starbucks or something like that too?

(Edit to answer my own questions again:  To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Jagged Little Pill, Morissette released a studio acoustic version, Jagged Little Pill Acoustic, in June 2005. The album was released exclusively through Starbucks' Hear Music retail concept through their coffee shops for a six-week run. The limited availability led to a dispute between Maverick Records and HMV North America, who retaliated by removing from sale Morissette's other albums for the duration of Starbucks's exclusive six-week sale.)

I'm actually liking the addition of Trujillo on bass. I recall the band Infectious grooves he was in & listened to them online a few weeks ago. A good fast thrash/funk metal band. & Suicidal Tendencies was great. Although, I think he was only in them for a short time.

Still I think he was a good addition for them to expand, and try new things & have a new feel. Not just Metallica's bass player. I'm not knocking Newstead BTW, I just agree with Metallica's replacement.

I have nothing agaist Trujillo, but in live shows they're missing Newstead's vocals big time.
