#921 Re: Guns N' Roses » If the World leak » 903 weeks ago

wow

very experimental track alright

some nice stuff in there - the solo is tasty

it's out there for sure, it is about as far from the classic GNR sound as is possibly imaginable although it is totally the kind of thing I would have expected for CD - if that makes sense at all?...

I think it is pretty strong overall

#922 Re: Guns N' Roses » Song #2 (Unknown Title) » 903 weeks ago

this is starting to sound like something good -  i think it could be a grower

initially the beat was a bone of contention but I am def warming to it

#923 Re: Guns N' Roses » Riyadh and the Bedouins leak » 903 weeks ago

I love it

Im sorry it kicks ass and this is coming from a guy that thought it was filler from the outset

Even Fincks meandering contributions to the solo section cant ruin it

#924 Re: Guns N' Roses » Overall feelings on the CD era songs.... » 903 weeks ago

hard to really determine how I feel about all this

I think it's pretty clear that we now have 9 tracks from the album itself. Whats missing? Sorry? Atlas Shrugged? Prostitue? This I love?

Overall, some good if not great songs.

Not sure it sits together all that well mind.

Ive only listened to the 'new' 3 songs twice and they sure are all over the map, no doubt. I was a little disappointed to be honest and I am hoping this will pass as the songs grow on me. They seem a little overcooked and like something that would have possibly sounded fresh and cutting edge a good decade ago...

In saying that, the remastering/mixing of the songs we have all grown to know and love over the last 5, 6, 7, 8 years - the Blues, CD and IRS etc.. - it is nice to hear them sounding big, rounded and bombastic like I always imagined they would....

Maybe, just maybe, this could be a special album. I remain sceptical however. i agree with observations that there is just too much going on,; too many musicians, too may influences, producers, sounds, distractions, styles etc. etc. It just does not have any coherency.

I guess we shall see, but I am fairly certain this chapter is coming to an end. We almost have CD by the looks of it. Kind of strange

you listed 14 and they usually played about 18 songs in 2006-07

you missed SCOM, KOHD, LALD, and if i had to guess one more track to round out 18 i'd say OTGM, they played that almost every show from what i remember

19

you're right - they played those first 3 definitley, not too sure about OTGM

clearly we drank too many beers beforehand tongue

yeah, that took a load off my shoulders too....:haha:

yip - things are looking really rosey when Axl's housekeeper makes petty remarks on his behalf about Slash on a messageboard

really instills confidence that a release is forthcoming!

more painful than I remember - truly embarrassing

Best CD era lineup: Robin Finck, Buckethead, Paul Huge, Tommy Stinson, Brain, Dizzy Reed & Chris Pitman. We're down to three, two of whom are really expendable (and one of those two almost completely unnecessary). Isn't it ironic that NOW we stand to finally see this album released? Looks like Axl will be touring behind it with CD Phase IV. Finck was the heir to Slash's throne, not Bumblefoot. Buckethead took the CD recordings to mythic levels, not Fortus. I'm glad for the update, but sad at the current state of my favorite band.

Yeah, its certainly fucked up that by the time CD comes out, it'll likely be a scab lineup touring behind it. Certainly wont take anything away from the record, but will definitely alter the live shows.

While I would laugh at BBF solos, friends/relatives would be laughing at the old solos being played.

Next time everyone may be laughing at the same time.....

Can a musician here tell me what makes these newer songs so difficult to play? I know people can play them, but harsh interpretations are required. You cant get the sound that the 00-04 lineup was able to create.

the only difficult parts are BH's parts James - on a technical, but perhaps more importantly emotional level - thats where BBF falls over - has the technical proficiency but lacks the emotional gut level feel - much the same as say a Fortus vs a Slash

I agree, the old new lineup (2001-2002) definitley had something exciting and appealing - despite the odds still being very much against people accepting them as GNR - but the more that is stripped away and eroded, the less inspiring and interesting the whole 'band' proposition is and the more (if it were possible) farcical the whole thing becomes

I gotta give karma for this because it really is insane isn't it.

Over at HTGTH they say that Richard doesn't answer GNR questions because of bad experiences with it and how his words are taken as news. That may be so. But WHY does the media and fans take HIS words and news? Maybe because there are a problem in how GNR communicates? If they communicated properly, Richards words wouldnt count for more than that...words. So instead of blaming us and the media for it, they might look at their own system first and find out WHY it happens.

Now for the big finale, what does past history and songs written by outsiders (like Beatiful) got ANYTHING to do with news or how his words are interpreted by fans and media?

Horrible.

The Axl Cult's followers are complete lunatics. They're keep saying how guilty all we are and don't deserve a true word from the Almighty God who Axl Rose is. 'We're not worthy, we're not worthy', they're chanting all the time. Everything Almighty Axl does or doesn't do is the pure perfection. You cannot question His Golden Words, and when his words turn out to be... erm... bullshit, then the high priests do everything to tell the others that Almighty Axl meant the exact opposite, or how his almighty plans can change and we're to small and stupid to understand his great plans and greater mastermind.

Not to mention the Evil forces, who came only to destroy Almighty Axl. The Evil can appear on different ways: sometimes he looks like Doug Goldstein, sometimes like Buckethead, Merck Mercuriadis, promoters, fire brigades, 'so-called fans', and - according to brand new and yet to be publicated studies - he can even appear in the shape of Robin Finck. But mostly the Evil shows his true face: Slash. And the zealots have the same attitude as the inquisition when it comes to the Fallen Angel, the worst Devil of All, named Slash, who is The Master of Lies, and a thief, who deserves nothing but all-time purification and his followers need to be eliminated. The war between the forces of Good and Bad can never end until  the Good forces get the Holy Grail, the album called Chinese Democracy. But as the Almighty One himself once said (Book of Press Releases, 2002): "If you're waiting...don't. Live your life. But if you're really into waiting try holding your breath for Jesus cause I hear the payoff may be that much greater". It's still the object of interpretations if he meants it's only a fuckin' album or he meant that he's been working on a trilogy called Jesus, so without the other 2 albums the war cannot end. But everyone in the Axl Rose church agree in some things: first of all that not 5 Gods made the Holiness of Guns N' Roses, not even a Blessed Trinity, but Axl Rose himself, alone. And the other foundation-stone is that the fans should shut up and be happy what you get and don't think about what you don't. Anyone who dares to question this truth is a heretic and will be banned.

brilliant post! and on the money, which is the sad thing....

on topic, I dont think Richard knows jack-shit about the plans for Axls solo album/tour
