Noboby "told me" I have worked in electronics (until recently due to a family sickness) for years. I worked closely with the industry leaders and I know my shit. However I did not mean FIFTEEEN times but FIVE times (even then I was being modest considering it is actually closer to 7x). Plans are to have a 250 gig Blu Ray discs out by the end of this year and TDK had already made a prototype near the end of 2006 that could store 200 gigs. The potential is one huge reason Blu Ray is winning.
Here's the article: http://www.betanews.com/article/TDK_Dev … 1157125164That is not likely to be used for movies but rather for data storage. And it's not the current spec so you shouldn't have said that it can do it because it currently can't. Not sure where you're getting the 7x number either. HD DVD confirmed a spec for a 51 gig disc in December. It will never see the light of day because HD DVD has already lost the war and will be discontinued sometime in the near future. At any rate, 250/50 = 5 times.
It is likely to be used for many things, optical media is not limited to the storage of data. 200 GBs is what is being developed right now and therefore is relative to the conversation when comparing the two competing formats. As far as the 7x I was basing that number on YOUR statement that "a dual layer HD DVD is 30 gigs". Based on the information you used for your example I was saying that 200/30 when rounded up to the nearest whole number is 7. I don't have a problem with you but the "who the fuck told you that" remark certainly set the tone for our communication to each other and it wasn't necessary nor warranted. I have no problem with you calling me out for a type-o (15 when intended 5) but that doesn't mean it has to become a personal issue. If I'm reading (what seems like an unfriendly antagonistic approach on your behalf) your intent incorrectly then I apologize and say let's try and use a little more tact with each other from this point on.

They say its all finished, and untill they turn around soon and say there doing more work I won't be as negaative as you guys.

...And I really don't think anyone should take what MSL says all that too seriously.
Trust me, noone wants it any other way. It's good to see you and some others have a little more hope than (myself) and some of my fellow curmudgeons have. We all want the same thing some of us just have been let down so many times it is hard for us to muster up the optimism at times.

I'm gonna predict a medley of Refugee, Free Falling, and either American Girl or Running Down a Dream.
This is a pretty good guess in my opinion. I'd go with the list you have (with Running Down a Dream over American Girl) and add I Won't Back Down for its obvious tie-in attitude to the game.

Does that mean I should not buy a Blu Ray player just yet? Like will it change?
It could but I wouldn't let that stop you. It is basically the storage media that is being improved for the most part. Of course the longer you wait the lesser the price, so that is always a good reason to procrastinate.
If you want a inexpensive way to enjoy higher quality viewing of the dvds you own right now just go buy an inexpensive dvd player that up-converts. You can get them for 30.00 bucks or so at Wally-World right now. It's a good way to improve your viewing without paying a lot of cash out. I only have a Blu Ray because I got a PS3. The high definition is definitely amazing but I wouldn't have spent the cash just for that reason. It's just a matter of what gives you the most enjoyment and literally how much it is worth to you.

Gunslinger wrote:Right now Blu-Ray is winning the war. Blockbuster isn't even carrying HD-Dvd any longer. As far as video quality they are both excellent and it would be hard to say which is better athough (strictly an opinion here) I think the blu-rays can produce a bit more "depth" in the picture quality. From a technical standpoint the Blu- Ray is superior as it can hold 15x the info that a HD-DVD can. That doesn't mean that it will come out the victor. Betamax was superior to the VHS yet VHS won. MD was superior to the CD, CD won.

I agree with what both of you guys are saying and I think he's silent because there's nothing to talk about. There has to be tons of tension in the band right now and I honestly will be surprised if we don't see the remaining members start to depart in the next few months. Bucket just said "fuck it" a little quicker than the rest...think maybe he was "on to something?"

I think Vic will still be happy! Thanks for the post Neemo, I hadn't heard about this one yet.

It just gets worse and worse. Any chance she had of trying to save her career for a potential comeback down the road has been extinguished a long time ago but now it looks more and more like she'll be lucky to make it through the year.
She supposedly earns $700,000 a month. Use some of that money and buy a nice house in the middle of nowhere and get your shit together.
Too bad that someone who she may actually listen to (if any exist) doesn't step up and tell her this very thing. It's advice that she really needs to take.

Totally messed up individual but I think he did it (at least at some level) as a fear tactic to gain what he thought was empowerment. He probably viewed himself powerless at some level (possibly something to do in the relationship with his "estranged wife") and in his own twisted mind thought this act would make him regain control in some way. I'm sure the attention aspect played a huge part as well. It would be interesting to know some history on the events leading up to this.

I haven't seen it but I liked the original. Sounds great that NBC is keeping it the same, looks like someone has finally understood "if it ain't broke .... don't fix it!"
