#981 Re: Guns N' Roses » $1,500 to "Charity" for Unheard Chinese Democracy Demo » 899 weeks ago

Perhaps if DR Pepper had offered the equivalent of a can of DR Pepper for the whole of America in hard cash donated to an association for the care of military veterans or something then we might have stood a better chance of seeing Chinese Democracy

Edit.....I hadn't seen this.....either this is where BBA got his idea from or the website is just full of shit and exaggerating rumours

Scabs, I am completely neutral on the new band vs reunion thing. As crazy as this is going to sound, I actually think this is a fairly exciting time. After 14 years of recording with various "bandmembers"-yes, this thing started in 1994, we really have NO idea what the next announcement will be, we don't know who will actually be in the band, etc. 18 Axl has accomplished one task in 14 years... he has somehow completely baffled the entire fanbase by reducing us to the point of having no idea what he is going to do next. 14

Its intruiging reading the Reckless Road book, how Tom Zutaut had to reign in GNR and their appetite for playing show after show on the Strip when they first started out, his strategy to creating more mystique around the band by withdrawing them from the local scene, creating more hunger for the fans and at the same time writing more material.

Seems like Axl has quite literally taken on this strategy year after year to the point where we barely see or hear from him.

I see where you are coming from, however I think they need to throw the fans a few more tidbits while we wait this latest 'silent' episode out. I think the next 2 months will be instrumental in the bands future success...or failure.

Wait. Just to clarify; there's no one in their right mind who thinks Axl sounded better in 02 then in 06 right? I mean to me, the 06 Vs 91/93 can be debated but 02 isn't even a contender.

I think thats a hard case to argue.

He sounded fine to me live (Hammersmith, Download, Wembley) but half the time I'm so excited I don't really notice whats going on!

I'm a natts piss away from switching from being a supporter of the new band to arguing the case for a reunion. I can understand the band not wanting to raise expectations until all is signed and ready to go, but for fucks sake they need to give something for the 'fans' to get excited about. 136 page arguments about whether Robins in or out don't really get me going at all.

Gotcha. After I posted that, I thought about it more and figured thats what you meant.

In other news I was talking about this with a guy at work yesterday and he says "Wow. How times change huh? In 1980, the talk was 'have you heard this AC/DC band? I heard it means Anti-Christ/Devil's Children!' and now in 2008 the talk will be 'hey honey look! I got the new AC/DC while I was getting bread at Wal-Mart!'"

That reminds me of a book my father read, which claimed KISS stood for 'Knights in the Service of Satan'.

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if Gene Simmons had sold his soul to the devil somewhere early in his career.

Whatever you guys say I'm still excited about the return of Angus and Malcolm. Probably more than Axl at this point.

Oh don't get me wrong, although I'm not an AC/DC fan I can certainly see where someone could be. I think it's cool that people are looking forward to this album. I'm just not sure how I feel about these type of deals yet. I'm a Garth fan and I really didn't like his exclusive deal w Wal-Mart either.

I kind of see your point, if Guns new album was to be distributed exclusively through Tesco or Saisbury in the UK I might share the same sentiment. But to me as long as the corporates don't start controlling the musical integrity of bands, then I don't really see the problem how they distribute. I mean whats the diffrence between a deal with Apple to Walmart, one has the monopoly of online music the other general retailing. To the bands they just want the best deal for the band and their business.

Having said all that I think what Trent is doing is very cool 22

I thought my joke wasn't too coherent when I posted it, so I'll clarify here - every AC/DC album is pretty much the same. I see no need for them to make new music, and I doubt they've got their first good record in 17 years up their sleeves. That combined with the Wal-Mart only bullshit means I won't buy this record.

I read in Slash's book he spent a lot of time with Flamenco guitar players during GNR downtime.

I'd like to hear Slash play with a variety of singers and styles. I think it would make people see him as a multi dimensional player

I'd be seriously dissapointed if AC/DC suddenly decided to be a prog rock or emo band. They're a great pick you up rock n' roll party type band and thats one of the reasons I love them so much. I can find diversity elsewhere 22

I couldn't really care about Walmart

Good luck. Right now I'll take any song wherever it comes from. And if its for a decent charity then all the better.
