Taco Bell recently countered with a campaign, claiming their filling is actually 88% beef. We'll see. They're not backing down on this.
Update: Taco Bell says their meat is 88% beef.
In response to allegations made last week, Taco Bell is running an ad campaign to ‘set the record straight.’ The ads are entitled ‘Thanks for suing us,’ and go into detail describing the Bell’s not-so-secret formula:
“We start with USDA-inspected quality beef (88%). Then add water to keep it juicy and moist (3%). Mix in Mexican spices and flavors, including salt, chili pepper, onion powder, tomato powder, sugar, garlic powder, and cocoa powder (4%). Combine a little oats, caramelized sugar, yeast, citric acid, and other ingredients that contribute to the flavor, moisture, consistency, and quality of our seasoned beef (5%).”
It’s good to know the beef percentage isn’t likely to be as low as originally alleged; however, keep in mind that this is damage control. Taco Bell’s fare is probably no worse than most fast food out there, but the important thing to remember is that it IS fast food. No one said it had to be healthy, just quick. If you REALLY want to know what’s going into your food, learn to cook it yourself...or marry someone who will do it for you.

Ate some Taco Bell tonight.... seemed like it was pretty much beef to me. Maybe not the same as making Extra-Lean or Ground Sirloin at home, but Taco Bell always came across as an 80/20 mixture, finely ground, with the extra additives that the plaintiff is stating.

On Tuesday, 32-year-old New Yorker Peter Helfer returned to his Audi A3 station wagon to find that it had become a giant icicle! In a major case of bad luck, Helfer had parked directly over a busted water line. The combination of subfreezing temperatures and passing traffic splashing water onto his vehicle for 48 hours had completely encased it in a sheet of ice! Having to miss work, Helfer struggled to free his car for about 7 hours, accidentally smashing his rear window in the process. Thankfully, city workers sent to repair the broken pipe were able to aid him with the use of a hammer, chisel, and a blowtorch!
