i really have no comment on Tommy's bass playing ability..as i have never heard the replacements...though in comparing the leaks to the old GnR catalogue...there are many tunes when duff is right there loud and clear with a wicked hook that rivals even slashs guitar playing SCOM for example...madagas is tommy capable of that kind of thing as a bass player? or is he the type to follow along with the rhythm guitar ?

Duff just followed Slash...almost copying him by his own admission...see MTV special from 88/89. Tommy and Duff are pretty similar in their bass playing talent. Neither is any better than the other. Tommy's bass was much more pronounced in the Replacements, especially from 81-84 when they were a little more punk. We will need the final chinese mixes before making any overall judgements on who contributes more to their respective bands. My fav Duff stuff is The Garden, Locomotive, RNDTH, ISE, and SCOM.
