Re: Rumor: Axl and Slash at same hotel in NYC?

For fuck's sake, he went on a European tour with Axl within the last few years. He started his first bands with Axl. He went to High School with Axl. He still plays with Duff and Slash on various occasions. He showed up for the AFD 20th. He would clearly do a reunion tour if it is done properly.
Yeah, but by the same token, we had the guys on the 2006 tour saying that he enjoys that setup - dropping in occasionally, but not being obligated to make an appearance. I don't doubt that he'd tour if it was the right setup, but I couldn't imagine it being a going concern. After all, "Izzy is Izzy."
Plus I'd gnaw off my own arm to see Fortus and Slash sharing a stage.
If the reunion happens I guaran-damn-tee that Izzy will not be a permanent part.
Also, I'm going to go on record as saying that Matt will be your drummer for the tour as well.
I actually belive that Izzy will be a part of it and for more than just a tour.
I am sure the other guys know that if it is to be something more than just a reunion tour. ie recording new material together, the only way this will happen successfully is if Izzy will be a party to it.
But I agree, beyond a tour and releasing some new material, it would be hard to keep him around for a long period after that. Particularly if the whole circus thing and prima donna attitudes started to creep into the camp.
I disagree on the Sorum thing. Adler (if he is still alive at the time) will be a part of it in some form. There is something magical (and saleable) about having "the original lineup". Practically if there was a world tour they would either have to rotate the nightly drum spot or even share the duties each night.
But I firmly believe that whenever it happens Adler will be a part of it. I also want it too, personally whilst I think Sorum is a capable drummer and I was really happy with his UYI drumming - from what I see, plus what I have heard the guy is a cock head and I have grown to dislike him quite a bit over time (long story)!
Anyhow - all these decisions would be a nice problem to have. Unfortunately I think it's still quite a long way off. Personally I would like to see CD out, toured and dusted before all this shit started to enter the equation.
Re: Rumor: Axl and Slash at same hotel in NYC?
Russ, for the record, when I say a reunion, I just mean a one off world tour that would last for maybe a year. No recording involved-just a one time cash grab tour. Not talking about a full time thing for years to come. For fuck's sake if Izzy isn't ivolved full time it isn't a reunion, it is just another Gnr amalgamation. If that is the case, Axl should just take Slash back now and fuck everybody else. Let Izzy come and go as he pleases.:butt:

It is not a reunion if you do some form of half ass mix of uyi gnr, new gnr, vr. That would be awful.
As I've said, it is as far as the wider ticket-buying public are concerned - and they're the people whose opinions count. As long as Axl's up there with Slash, most people will consider it a GN'R reunion - in the same way that they considered the UYI-era band GN'R, even though Izzy and Steven had both been replaced. Duff's also reasonably essential (as part of that UYI-era band). As an "additional musician" on the UYI tour, Matt's ultimately disposable, but likely to come as part of a package with Slash and Duff. Adler is... unlikely, to put it mildly.
That leaves the rhythm guitarist spot. In an ideal world, it'd be Izzy, but we already know he prefers "dropping in" for guest spots to a full-on tour. Slash might simply insist that "Axl joins Velvet Revolver", and that Dave comes along. Gilby is pretty unlikely, having not had contact with either camp for a decade. I imagine/hope that we'd get Fortus, and if there was an album to follow, Izzy would stick around as a songwriter and contribute to the album.
Yes, it'd be lovely to see the AFD-era GN'R reunite (of course, they're not the original GN'R...), but I think we have to accept that if a reunion happens, it won't be that line-up touring. If you're realistic about it, you're less likely to be disappointed.

Gilby is pretty unlikely, having not had contact with either camp for a decade.
Gilby attended one of the GB shows of VR some weeks ago (I think one of the London gigs), he met and talked with the guys
