Re: Chinese Democracy "On the schedule"
actually, it is quite the opposite....big releases feed off each other. You don't want to release them the exact same week, but around the same time is not a problem. U2 and Gnr will also both be released on Interscope. Mr. Iovine may have quite a 4th quarter.
Shackler better be good though......the success of the album pretty much depends on it.:/
Re: Chinese Democracy "On the schedule"
Who cares about U2? I sure as hell dont. I'll take CD any day. If anything, they should be more concerned about releasing it around when Metallica releases their cd. They will be competing with that fan, moreso than most U2 fans.
Everyone competes with U2. You might not like them, but lets be realistic. U2's record is gonna fly off shelves, regardless of any chinese buffet being offered next to it.
I have said for years that they better not let this album coincide with a U2 release or there could be problems.
Uni will of course create space between the two releases, but the moment U2 and GNR collide with each other for chart position, U2 wins.
The main thing is releasing CD on a date where there is little to no competition. They gotta guarantee this thing the number one spot or its gonna tank.
This Rock Band thing basically guarantees it high chart position, but that depends on where U2 isand if GNR can follow through. U2's fans aren't notorious downloaders like GNR fans are. While GNR fans across the globe are sharing links, U2 fans are in line at Best Buy.

Nat really though...look at the sales of t he latest motley crue album...saints of losangeles was an exclusive download yet album sales their new album werent buy any means amazing
According to Billboard, the 99,000 bow of "Saints" represents the biggest sales week for MÖTLEY CRÜE since Christmas week of 1991, when its hits package "Decade of Decadence" sold 121,000.
"Saints of Los Angeles" entered the chart at No. 4, behind a top three that remained unchanged from last week. Coldplay's 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' hangs in at No. 1, with second-week sales of 249,000 copies, bringing its two-week total just shy of 1 million. Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter III' stayed at No. 2, adding an additional 209,000 copies to its tally, while Disney's "Camp Rock" soundtrack once again is No. 3, after selling 169,000 copies.
same with teh Jordan thing Bri mentioned....yeah it was good exposure but BH is still nothing more than an underground act, i dunno what its like in teh states but from what i understand he only plays clubs and around here you cant purchase his albums in a store...online sales only
that isnt a chart position in the bank IMO
anyway its def good exposure but its not gona create platinum sales by any means
Bono, slashisvr....the enthusiasm is there so lets ride it out, god knows we havent had much to celebrate as gnr fans recently
Re: Chinese Democracy "On the schedule"
Would Gn'R not have to go through the IOC to to get permission to promote this in conjunction with the Olympics? They woudln't be allowed to simply use the Olympics as a backdrop to CD. And the IOC wouldn't touch Gn'R with a million foot pole. The Olympics embodie everything Axl is not or at least isn't from perception of the public. There's no way these two go together. The Olympics have ZERO to gain by attatching themselves to Gn'R and Chinese Democracy. Gn'R would have to use generic footage of sporting events, not use the Olympic name or logo and it would be a joke. I can't see this happening at all. Hahaha! I'm ust pictureing atheletes achieving tragedy and triumph with heartbreak and ecstasy with Chinese Democracy playing in the background. hahahahahaa. NEVER!
I assume NBC can sell advertising to whomever they please.
Re: Chinese Democracy "On the schedule"
I dont' see anyone denying the reach of Rockband compared to HD.
Oh My God was originally thought to be the comback of Gn'R and that flopped. Again though Rockband is bigger than a movie sondtrack.
It makes no difference though. Each time it's bigger and more relevant and each time it falls on it's face. I don't see the difference here really. Just more of the same. People who preach they won't believe it untill they have a solid release date or actually hear a single on radio are once again going back on those words allowing their emotions and excitement to take over completely. Maybe it's different for me since none of it excites me anymore. I mean the album could come out next week and will I buy it? No. So maybe it's just easier for me to stay "grounded" for lack of a better word.
One thing people are forgetting or refusing to aknowledeg or just don't know about is this "relase date time frame" is scheduled to happen around the same time as U2's new album. Is that the actual plan? After all this time they're gonna put out an album at or around the same time as a U2 release? Talk about bad timeing for Gn'R. They arent' that stupid are they? This is reason enough for me to believe it's not happening. Unless it's an ego thing and Axl wants to go head to head with an absolute giant. Good luck.
you're opinions are facts only in your mind. i believe your time is wasted here and cannot understand how you could call bono ( the real bono ) and u2 a giant compared to axl and gn'r. i believe cd will be released regardless of who it goes up against and i believe it will be a success. that is my OPINION.

I'm not talking about album sales. Chart position. This isn't going multi platinum whether Rock Band takes over the universe or not. On a slow week, you can hit number one with like 15-20 thousand copies sold. Thats what I'm talking about.
Very few acts cross the multi platinum barrier now(U2 is one of them), and this album just needs to ride the wave of Rock Band and grab that number one Billboard spot. It wont stay there longer than a week, but it needs to be able to say it hit number one.
Thats why Uni needs to dump CD on the masses within weeks of Rock Band. Once people forget Shackler's Revenge, we're back to square one.

Oh it'll be a success of some sort. How much we wont know until weeks after the release. Bono is just making the point that CD will potentially be going up against the monster known as U2.
If U2 has Vertigo vol. 2 ready to launch, it becomes the music story of the end of 2008.
