Re: GNR go Gold

Not to interrupt the U2 lovefest, but I think Porcupine Tree is making more cutting edge music than about anybody out there right now:

Porcupine Tree has a pretty good following. They get talked about alot on the U2 sites. I first heard of them a few years back but I haven't been able to get into them for whatever reason. They are interesting but it just hasn't connected with me.  A band I underated was My Morning Jacket.  There was so much hype for them(even from Bono himself) but what I had heard on radio did  not impress me at all untill I saw this video on The Wedge one night

Another sweet song by them is Highly Suspicious

Pinback is another cool band

I set the VCR because when I left for the U2 concert, getting home to watch the VMAs mattered alot. Then U2 went ahead and blew the roof off the joint and I didn't even remember to watch the VMAs for several days. .

U2 has a knack for blowing the roof off awards shows.

MMJ are awesome--seen em live four times.  It Still Moves, Z, and the live Okonokos (live album and one of the best live DVD's ever) are great albums!!

I was at the ZOO TV show in 92 when they did Even Better Then The Real thing on the VMAs.

Bastard. 16 That was the highlight of that VMA show.

madagas, you're about as old school as it gets on these GNR boards. I was in 5th grade when Live Aid happened.

when love comes to town, from that album, is one of my all time favorite U2 songs

Hawkmoon 269 and All I Want Is You are 2 incredible songs. However, not a big fan of the album as a whole. I don't like albums that mish mash studio songs and live songs. To me, this is a soundtrack to a movie.

I agree, although "pussy music" may be a bit harsh.  I'd say U2 is much more mellow rock and they can rock hard on occasion, while a band like GNR is the opposite.  They rock hard for the most part, and slow it down on occasion.  I prefer it that way.  That's why U2 doesn't do it for me, overall.
