Bands who post stupid messages only on holidays and try to loosely tie in the holiday to something irrelevant about their band are in danger of having their fans think the person running the fb/twitter accounts is an idiot.

Ab-so-lutely!!! I completely have thought that since Axl did the chats and started his Twitter.
Especially when he looked like a fool running down Slash.
It's weird like that. All these years you ache for a guy like Axl to open up more communication to the fans, then he does, then you wish he'd shut the fuck up.
Thankfully Axl "got it" just before he reached that point of losing his mystique. At least Ron keeps it music-related and family-like for the fans.
DJ... he's gone. He's gone... and there's nuttin' we can do.
I personally think internet-mystique is a big reason so many people look like douches on FB & Twit. When it was just internet forums, you could say INSANE shit, and create characters and do schtick, and it was all in stride. Now that people put a real name and face and life to their stupid comments, it just kills their credibility, gets them fired, kills their life. Celebrities too. No one is immune.
