Unfortunately this was bound to happen.  MAYBE, things would've gone down differently if they weren't given an ultimatum through the press.  Probably not, but we'll never know.  But once that ultimatum was given, GNR was guaranteed to push the limits as much as they could.

Not that the band isn't at fault, because they are.  But the promoter handled this whole thing horribly.  Such is life when dealing with a band like Guns N' Roses I guess.  It's hard to handle things well.  Compare this though to Sturgis, where the organizer came out and took the blame for the late start.

The more I think about this, I don't think it was an ultimatum.  I think the guy realised he might have to do it, so he took it public.

Imagine what the outrage would have been when he pulled the plug if no one knew of a possiblility it would happen.

Exactly. Going to the press was to cover his own ass in case of the likely event that GnR fucked him and his event.

GnR put his livelihood and the FANS' festival(s) at risk. The curfew isn't his call. You think he'd pay the enormous fee (a fee that virtually no one in the US is willing to pay) just to pull the plug on GnR to prove a point? 20 songs in?

Stop drinking the kool aid. Axl either was late on purpose, or late because he wasn't professional enough to be bothered doing his job. Either way, this is on him, NOT anyone else.

if they went on 40 minutes after the previous band thats actually pretty reasonable to change over gear from the previous and set up the next one...

again we dunno exactly what happens but obviously some peopel are in one camp and others are in the other

the more i think about it the more i think axl was correct if he was making a statement by purposefully breaking the curfew.

somebody's got to be the bad guy. someone's got to stand up to the conventional homongenised way of thinking, somebody's got to question that supposed wisdom & the impact that has. & axl is in a position to do that. we all are to some extent, but he's got a megaphone compared to the rest of us. he's got a rock n roll band.

Of course he did, but I suspect he was given certain ideas by GNR management when they signed the contracts. Anyway, the guy's a dork too.

Other than that, or he should really do some research before he books. Should've thought Leeds 2002 gave a pointer to that.

It's a bit like airplanes. One error doesn't cause a plane to crash. You need multiple errors and faults, maybe five or six.

This one had two faults, a stupid organizer and Axl's late showing. Didn't work.

I heard one hour, and went with that. If it turns out to be a reasonable time to get on stage, being delayed by others bands etc, then I withdraw my statements, but we'll see.

There's only one camp Neemo. Axl broke curfew so they cut his set short. End of Story.  It's on nobody else but Axl.  Late start, long set who cares. He broke the curfew nobody else. If people are in the camp that thinks the promoters are somewhat at fault then I think those people have lost their grasp on reality.

Not going to the Belfast show. For every gig of this tour that they have thoughtlessly left the fans standing for hours in limbo, to me it has been as much of a big fuck you to fans across the world as its is to the fans suffering on the night. I wont support that shit and I'm certainly not going to so much trouble to see people with such a snide, selfish attitude.

Mabye by October I'll feel differently and they win me over again, then I might drive down to Manchester. As it is I'm happy with my memories of 2006 smile

cuz U2 never broke curfew tongue

anyway not saying what they did was right, but we're assuming he broke curfew on purpose, we dont know what went down...like i said 40 minutes after the previous band is actually fast, it takes longer for bands in bars to tear down between acts 14

anyway the promoter giving an ultimatum jsut to throw his weight around is pretty lame too...
