Re: Bret Michaels Hospitalized (Again) with "Warning" Stroke

That's a mild stroke? Holy shit... I don't want to know what a "massive stroke" is.
My Grandfather had one back in 82. I was kindof a kid but it left him paralyzed on his entire left side for the last 11 years of his life. He was speechless, not only couldn't use his mouth but couldn't say any words except "Dommm" for anything. TV on? "Dommm" Bathroom? "Dommmm" etc It was bad & he was that way for the last 11 years of his life. Wheelchair bound too, couldn't walk or use his left arm or hand or leg, & his right side wasn't very functional. It was no laughing matter. What's wild was he was a huge Phillies fan & no lie, no matter what day or time, he always knew when to put the TV on to watch the fighting Phils. Ironically he passed away during their World Series week in 1993. When they won the World Series a few years ago I said to my brother Grandpa's smiling up in heaven. They did it Timmie. RIP.

Yeah it's especially sad if you've been watching Celebrity Apprentice recently. In the last few episodes he got a call from his daughter who was showing signs of juvenile diabetes and she was going into the hospital for tests. She asked Bret, "Will I have to take shots every day like you daddy?" He was all broken up over that.
I never realized how big a deal, and how difficult living with diabetes can be. Again, hope for a full recovery for Bret. He seems like a genuine and overall nice guy.
There was a interview I read with Brett probably 15 yrs ago. He talked about getting pulled over by the cops (or getting into some sort of trouble.) Anyway, they found his needles and they assumed they were just his rigs for drugs. He tried to tell them he had diabetes, but they yahoo deputy just said "Oh sure, that's what they are for Mr. Rock Star." So the guy was thrown in jail and deprived of his insulin! I can't remember how it ended, either he got bailed out, or somebody verified his medical condition. But that's some scary shit, being locked up and having your lifeline essentially thrown away.
I talked to my physician last year about my experience and she said it more than likely was a stroke. Strokes can be very compartmentalized, where just one limb becomes paralyzed etc. Sometimes they stay that way, sometimes not. Some people end up like Adler with a speech impediment. It all depends. I am thankful it wasn't worse, and am concerned that my odds are higher of having another one day. Although it's nothing I can change at this point.
Anyway....Sadly Brett sounds like he has an uphill battle here. He already has serious health problems (albeit manageable) and now this. One thing about life, more times than not we have to live it on life's terms and not our own. Stuff like this happens, and it turns everything upside down. The older you get more you come to terms with that.

Cool that as a Phillie fan he went out with them at least NL Pennant winners.
He shouldn't have had to see that Joe Carter homerun.
Re: Bret Michaels Hospitalized (Again) with "Warning" Stroke
Here's the latest from his facebook:
"At this point Bret remains in ICU in critical condition. He is under 24 hour doctors care and supervision. We are hopeful that further tests will locate the source of the bleeding, which has still not been located. As we all know Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc. will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal."
Doesn't sound like he's on death's bed anymore.

If they haven't located the bleeding yet... then he's not exactly doing better.
Re: Bret Michaels Hospitalized (Again) with "Warning" Stroke
Well, yeah, but I was under the understanding he wasn't even conscious at first.
It still could go either way without a warning when it comes to brain bleeds.
I hope him being conscious is a good sign.
