Re: 2010-2011 NHL Season
This has been such a strange series. The Bruins have been unstoppable at home. I mean, the Canucks have not even had a chance. Yet, in Vancouver, the B's seem to tighten up and play more defensive, and the Canucks beat them in low scoring games.
Luongo has been a joke on the road and in the press conferences this series, yet he's been great at home. I'm pulling hardcore for the Bruins, even though I'm far from a fan. The Canucks are just a hard team to root for, and I have faith the B's can win ONE on the road. That's all it takes. I'd love to see the Sedin Sisters console each other and wipe away the tears of defeat.
Re: 2010-2011 NHL Season
Great job by the Bruins. Nobody gave them a chance at winning any of the last 3 series after getting pushed to 7 games in the first round by Montreal. Yet they kept proving people wrong. It's safe to say they weren't the most talented team in the NHL this year, but they played the best down the stretch, and that's all that matters. Tim Thomas was just beastly all playoffs, and all season long. The B's rode the hot goaltending, solid defense, and timely offense to win the Cup.
Congrats to Boston for bringing yet another major sports trophy to Beantown. Unfortunately, they're the only Boston team I don't cheer for, but it's good to see nonetheless. IF there's an NFL season next year, I'll probably get to see some of the guys at a Patriots game. As I'm sure they'll do something to honor them during halftime of a game or something. They did it for the Red Sox back in 2008.
Re: 2010-2011 NHL Season
I hope GN'R in 2002, and the Canucks tonight is not representative of Vancouver.
Riots, riots, riots. Jesus.
I thought about that today. Vancouver hasn't been so up in arms since Axl pulled a no show 9 years ago.
Listening to some of the Boston media today, one of the guys claimed that Tim Thomas had the GREATEST single SEASON in NHL history. I know it sounds a little far fetched, and I'm not privy to all the hardcore info. But he said that Thomas broke the regular season record for Goals Against Average and/or Save %. Then top it off with what he did in the playoffs. Plus he will win Vezina, to go along with the Conn Smythe AND the Cup, which is a pretty esteemed accomplishment.
Re: 2010-2011 NHL Season
The only riot I could ever possibly understand is if the Cubs won the World Series and broke that century-long drought without a championship.
I could understand the city of Chicago burning. It's still a game, but at least it would be plausible.
Other than that - fuck off. Boston had an excuse in 2004 and the south side of Chicago in 2005 with baseball... and I don't remember any riots. I remember the usual dicks throwing whiskey bottles at cop cars, but no full on rioting.
