Re: Most Recent Movie You've Seen

Forgot to mention that I saw The Last Stand with some friends on Friday evening. It was a really fun film. ARNOLD'S BACK..MOTHER FUCKERS!!! Don't expect anything ground breaking in terms of film. An entertaining way to kill an hour & a half. Worth checking out if you are a fan of his work. I was a tad worried about Knoxville's performance and thought he would be overused since I'm not a fan of his acting; but he was used appropriately used and in the right amounts..thank God!! xD Blasted Austrian Death Machine songs in the car on the way to the theater! 9

I heard it wasn't that good; but some of it does look interesting.

Yeah I thought it looked really good, despite Arnold being out of it for awhile. But I heard that it TOTALLY BOMBED at the Box Office. BARELY cracked the Top-10 with only a measley $6mil for MLK weekend. With all of the money and promo tied up into it, that was embarassing that it got only that much money.

It'll be interesting to see how Stallone's new action flick that opens in a couple of weeks, like Bruce Willis in Die Hard 5 does, and whether it's a "Arnold is a sleazeball" thing, or it's a "we don't want to see these old dude in new action flicks unless it's an ensemble or a sequel to their earlier works". I still think Stallone did well with The Expendables franchise because he had SO many names to back him up in the film. I also think Rocky VI and Rambo IV did well because they were sequels, no different than Willis with Die Hard 4.

I don't remember any of them having too many big hits in the modern day that weren't sequels to their most popular films. I think Arnold is supposed to do Conan III next year, reprising his original role after the Conan reboot was a total bomb.

Maximum Conviction (2012)

I saw "Maximum Conviction" over the holiday break back in December. Didn't mention it, because I thought it was pretty lame. For a new film to have both Steven Seagal and Stone Cold Steve Austin as the main leads, I thought it would've been better. Despite the fact that Seagal & Austin have obvious on-screen chemistry, RARELY in the entire film do they ever share the screen. I don't know if this was a shooting schedule thing with Seagal's "True Justice" TV series or just a 'too many egos at the table' thing of neither wanting to totally put the other over or what. Either way -- wasted opportunity.

The script is terrible, and the dialogue is dreadful. The action is okay for a DTV action film, but come across more as 'filmed for a TV series'. Which the film came across as. More as a pilot for a syndicated action show, rather than a film trying to be it's own thing.

Austin hams it up and of course plays himself as always, but remains as entertaining as ever, and seems to obviously just improv his lines rather than doing anything that was actually written. At least he tries.

Seagal on the other hand barely registers on the richter scale , and I can very sadly say IS NOT DRUNK OR HIGH. Because if he had been, it might've given an excuse to his embarassingly phoned-in performance. Several times during the film you can barely even understand what he's saying because he's murmering his lines. It gets frustrating after awhile, but the bad guys are even worse. You can almost predict what they're going to say next, so you cringe ahead of time.

A very disappointing film, that blantantly sets itself up for a sequel (so much so that it includes Austin's personal Broken Skull Ranch gimmick of his Texas property as the logo of he and Seagal's Special Forces team).

Maybe the sequel can be better if it features more of Seagal & Austin working together, but I had kinda looked forward to this because it seemed interesting to team the two Steven's up in an Expendables-style film. Unfortunately we just get two older, fatter, men doing parodies of themselves. The only difference is Austin is consciously tongue-in-cheek and tries to poke fun at himself, whereas Seagal takes himself seriously and just embarasses himself.

We watched Silver Linings Playbook again on Tuesday night, and still incredible. I absolutely adore that movie. I would LOVE if it won the Oscar, but am not counting on it.

We also have watched Pitch Perfect a couple times recently, and I'm totally into that movie as well. It's one of those that will be in heavy rotation in the blu-ray player for a while.

We have Zero Dark Thirty at home, maybe we'll watch that tonight. Russ has set up his computer to stream through our Google TV in the living room, so that makes things extra awesome. I think he also has Argo and one other movie, but I can't remember what...

I watched Cabin in the Woods last night for the first time. I had heard good things about it so my expectations were a tad higher than they should've been and it was a massive let down. It seemed interesting at first and I did find it kinda creepy to begin with but then the fucking zombies came and it turned into a complete joke.  One of the most fucking stupid 2nd halfs to a movie I have ever seen.  TERRIBLE.

I thought that movie was hilarious.

I've ruined this movie for more than one person by overselling it. For me, I just really like the govt subplot, and then the horror porn of the hallway scene. There are Cenobites, Deadites, Left 4 Dead zombies, and misc. creatures all in one spot!

The movie itself isn't that wonderful in retrospect, but I've seriously dented my cred with a few friends talking it up after my first watch.

Probably not going to check out the new Conan when that comes around. I loved The Expendables 2. It had everything me and my friends wanted in an action film with those one liners. You should check it out. I had a strong feeling it wasn't going to do all that well; but certainly not bomb. It's not the best when it comes to characters or action drama; but Arnold proves he still got some fight in him.
