#1021 Re: Guns N' Roses » CD update from record execs, it's 2006 again » 899 weeks ago

I'm just going to come out and say this, and I'm not looking for a debate, it's just something I think too many people are dancing around or playing nice with to avoid controversy. I do think the leaks are brilliant. What I've heard so far of Chinese Democracy is a masterpiece and some of the best new music by any artist in years. The leaks, to me, have proven exactly what Axl wants this album to mean, that he alone was the strongest creative vision behind GN'R, and he alone will continue to be. This is not old band versus new band, this is just my admiration for the man's unquestionable talent and a group of songs that I think are nothing less than phenomenal. I think TWAT blows most of GN'R's catalogue away and is maybe the best rock song of the past decade. I think Finck's solo leading into Bucket's outro defines the song more than he's given credit for. I think the lyrics are top notch. I do not think the BEST versions of the tracks are overproduced, but I do think some of the leaks we've heard were never meant to be heard by anyone other than players like Dizzy and Pittman. See, "produced sounding" to me is like a compliment. I grew up loving Queen. The Illusions are my favorite album. I love GN'R as a down n' dirty sleaze band, but I love them more as this high concept machine that began in those Illusions days. I'm also someone who doesn't think the Illusions have any filler and prefers the polished album versions of the much bandied about "rough" demos. Do I think the CD leaks are dated? No. Quite frankly, I don't care what the rest of the music world thinks of them, and I know holier than thou rags like Rolling Stone will try and rip the shit out of these tracks, but Axl's made some pretty fucking fantastic music. Just had to get that off my chest. If no one else here truly thinks the songs are THAT good, that's okay, at least I do. But if anyone else does, say so, because I just did.

I found a couple new bands to really check out thanks to those YouTube links.

Scene girls are hot. Period. I don't care about their shitastic music. I listen to old school hard rock and heavy metal. But these emo chicks are fuckin' hot. Believe that.

Oh I agree there man. Scene girls have it going on in a lot of different ways. I am actually dating one at the moment. So fine.

But Emo dudes.. Where do I start? They need to make "Kick an Emo int he face Friday" a national holiday.

haha Totally agree. I went through a stint where it seemed like all I was dating was scene girls. They can have their share of drama, though. I used to have a thing for punker chicks, but I'm really not into their music and to be honest most of them are just backwards or psychotic. It's funny, I was just watching Summer School, one of my all time favorite movies. Courtney Thorne-Smith is totally hot in that. Now, I don't think you can get any farther away from the kinds of chicks we're talking about to a chick like that. But I don't discriminate 5

Emo dudes? I'll tell you what's good about them, if you can call it that. Look at it this way: if that's gonna be the new trend or whatever, that's what kids are following, I'm just so glad it's not that fucking nu metal, ghetto fab white boy meets white trash shit that stunk up the late 90s into the 00s. So, am I a fan of the emo dudes? Not a fuckin' chance. But I'd rather have some bulimic guy who flat irons his hair than some fatass with too much gel in his hair who wears a black Dickies shirt with JNCO jeans, paints his nails black, tries to see how many piercings he can fit on his zit covered face, and pouts in the corner while he cuts his wrists the wrong way. Those are the fucks who ruined Ozzfest, who shitted up metal, who made Hot Topic a mall empire, who created Papa Roach who was the WORST opening act I have ever seen in my life on the '06 GN'R tour.

I've had a little to drink...

A Josh Todd fronted Project would kick so much ass. Still, the world needs Buckcherry right now. Mike Patton's a phenomenal vocalist, but he's let his eccentric squanderings all but lead his career into irrelevance. Shooter Jennings I had no idea was ever up for it. A. Jay Popoff would be interesting, to say the least, but I don't see him fitting with the VR guys at all. And then there was Baz ... ah, good ol' Baz. 'Nuff said.

Scott's comments about Axl awhile back really put him in the shitter for a long time as far as I was concerned. Finally, with the release of Libertad, my excitement for Velvet Revolver came back. I always loved the band, mind you, but Scott's immature behavior always put me in a weird spot. I'll support the ex-Gunners no matter what, but their frontman had a tendency to piss me off. Now, as an artist I always loved Weiland and STP. I'm super excited to be seeing STP this summer. But here we go again with a Weiland statement that leaves me really conflicted. See, I love Baz. I don't get the dig at him. I don't like the digs at Slash for Guitar Hero. I just ... you hit it onthe head, monkeychow. As a fan, Scott constantly leaves me feeling alienated.

Even thought we all knew it was happening, it's still something of a shock to see it written out all official, straight from Slash's mouth. That said, I'll continue to support VR in any incarnation. I'm also very excited to be seeing STP this summer. They'd always been one of my favorite bands and I never got to see them live before. Scott parting ways with VR opened a couple new doors, for me at least.

I don't think it's a joke. Hasn't Duff been saying he was gonna bring back Loaded after this current VR tour for awhile? Anyway, cool for him. I'd give it a listen.

That's just dumb, and a good five years after its punchline.
