Re: Other singers who auditioned for VR
we used to have a thread about this....but i couldnt find it so i started a new one
before "the project" started Slash was rumored to be working with Sammy Hagar (Van Halen)
For "The Project" Slash put out this ad
Fancy singing in a band with Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum?
TotalRock can reveal that the celebrated guitarist and co are looking for a rock 'n' roll singer in the mould of early Steven Tyler or Alice Cooper, combining a more forceful version of Lennon & McCartney with the most aggressive side of a young Billy Idol and Iggy Pop. Fit the bill? Send your demo to:Slash
so the singers who tried out (the ones i could find anyway) are (in order)
Josh Todd (Buckcherry)
Kelly Shaefer (Neurotica)
Sebastian Bach was next
Pat Briggs (Psychotica)
A. Jay Popoff (Lit)
Courtney Love
Travis Meeks (Days of the New)
Todd Kerns (The Age of Electric, Static In Stereo)
Shooter Jennings
Mike Patton (Faith No More) declined
Butch Walker (Marvelous 3) declined
Mike Matijevic (Steelheart)
Then they selected Scott Weiland in June 2003, it was rumored that they had live auditions from at least 100 known and unknown singers and those 100 or so were selected from over 600 responses to Slash's ad
Re: Other singers who auditioned for VR
A Josh Todd fronted Project would kick so much ass. Still, the world needs Buckcherry right now. Mike Patton's a phenomenal vocalist, but he's let his eccentric squanderings all but lead his career into irrelevance. Shooter Jennings I had no idea was ever up for it. A. Jay Popoff would be interesting, to say the least, but I don't see him fitting with the VR guys at all. And then there was Baz ... ah, good ol' Baz. 'Nuff said.

Re: Other singers who auditioned for VR
I don't think any of them (aside from the big names) seem interesting enough to work with.
Maybe an unknown talent is the answer, but with the struggles they had last time getting someone, I don't like their chances of going through that again.
I suppose the big difference is they actually have albums out as VR, whereas before people wouldn't have had any idea what they sounded like, aside from being ex-Guns members.

Re: Other singers who auditioned for VR
I would love to see what Sammy Hagar could do with them Call him what you will but he puts on or used to put on a great show.

So the ones with "declined" - means they declined an offer from slash and co to join?
Re: Other singers who auditioned for VR
It ain't going to happen, but I would love to see what they could do together with Dave Grohl.

Re: Other singers who auditioned for VR
I want Linda Perry. That chick can sing, she's a great songwriter and the Camp Freddy performance of Whole lotta Love with her (and Slash) was awesome.
