I think in retrospect Finck should've been the West Arkeen of the new Guns operation.
The studio guy who is influential behind the scenes but doesn't tour with the band or anything like that.
You could just say, yeah, just go with Bucket, and that wouldn't be wrong but then you have to consider songs like TWAT, IRS, Better, and Catcher wouldn't have ever materialized without Finck.
The big mistake was taking him back after 1999/2000. His strength was crafting a raw, dissonant sound. If Axl released a quick and dirty album and then moved on, it would've given him a shot in the arm and a Slash-less GNR some legitimacy. Instead, he used re-recording as a constant filibuster and way of avoiding the potential for rejection.
But if you're Axl, Finck represents some history, loyalty, and a fresh start. It's easy to understand why he didn't want to just cut him loose.
That said, I don't think Finck is a good rhythm player or complement to Bucket at all.

I seem to be the only asshole in the universe underwhelmed by RDR2 trailer.
It remains to be seen.
I'm interested to see how much of the game is a survival RPG/RTS and what is just talk.
I'm impressed by the animation and AI so far. I really like the world building, NPC behavior.
I mean, what are you looking for that's "new"?

I can't hear anything over that... noise
But yeah, sounds pretty non-exceptional.

Guns not only could have been the Stones but also a Skynyrd or Allman Bros. Great piano and great guitars yet still rock n roll.
I think that's what we wanted them to be. And what their legacy and mythos will be.
But I'm not sure I saw the chops to take it to that place.
Maybe it would've happened two albums down the road.
Does anyone else disagree with the article's statement that Slash's first solo album was a "sign of doom" for GNR at the time it was released? To me, it felt like he and Duff were biding their time, waiting for a reunion that just never happened. Not until later did the news break that Axl was working on his own.
Eh, not really.
It was when the seeds of dissension really started to sprout. Not just the differences of opinion regarding direction of the band but Axl and Slash fighting like teenage girls, Slash pulling his songs from Guns and putting them on Snakepit, and the whole nine.
The biding time thing could go either way depending on your perspective / allegiance.

I liked the interview. I was being a little bit of an asshole. I think he could've pushed him harder though.
It's funny. I read an article about AC/DC the other day and Angus was saying they've been so successful because they stick to their brand.
It's simple, down-to-earth hard rock. That's always been Slash's position about Guns.
I'm not sure I agree but I certainly would prefer it to the joke that is Melissa on 2nd keyboard.

It was a mess, who really knows what happened or why.
I like the title track as much as the next guy who liked grunge and German pop metal but it is an average track on it's best day.
It makes for a phenomenally bad comeback and reintroduction.
Here's your perfect lead-in:
The place goes dark.
Radio feedback screeches over the speaker system.
Soft white noise.
More feedback.
Somethings coming in...
Archival clips flood the screens.
"Welcome to the Jung--- "
More feedback as the dial shifts.
"Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has been missing..."
"---Youuuuu could beeeee mi iineeeee"
"... The Guns N' Roses frontman..."
"Sweet child solo....."
".... Missing for 10 years..."
The lights in the place start to search the place in a giant spotlight pattern.
"Where is Axl Rose?"
"WHERE IS AXL ROSE?"
"WHAT HAPPENED TO GUNS N ROSES?"
A frenzied wave of tones fill the arenas as the spotlight stops on center stage...
A shadowy figure approaches the microphone slowly.
He surveys the arena.
Pause.
NO ONE EVER TOLD ME WHEN
I WAS ALONE
THEY JUST THOUGHT
I'D KNOW BETTER
BETTER
The lights kick on right on the main riff... pyro cannons into the air...
Axl Rose returns, lean, cut, angry, dressed in tight black jeans, black gloves, a leather jacket, and vintage aviators.

I accept the rebuke.
But at the same time... it's essentially your public comeback. Might want to be a little more thorough.
Anyway... Water, bridges, history that is ancient.
#139 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses tour to continue through 2017(and beyond) » 370 weeks ago
Good point. Then we would never get any ballads, which was half the CD.
But why not?
The label will reserve (and promote) what they think will sell.
Slash and Guns are completely different entities. One is a large corporation and one is a glorified version of Buckethead's pikes.
It all comes down to money.
