Well I don't imagine it would ever happen anyway. Every other post is BBA begging to be a part of the action too. Anybody that desperate you shouldn't let in, that's for sure.

There seems to be a lot of peeps asking for Madison to come back...

Poor Jarmo....

Poor BBA, he pitched so hard to buy it, although he never had a chance.
I'm curious to see how this works now. Will peeps come back? I'm going to guess there will be this honeymoon period and then you'll see the complaints crank up about how it's changed.
Sheeesh.

If Eric wanted to step away from the forum surely he would have decided either to simply pull the plug and let it die, or a more savvy person would say why don't I try and sell it if possible.
You then advertise the fact that you wish to sell the forum, perhaps even approach the GNR camp to guage any interest in buying it.
I don't understand it, is he trying to suggest that he only now has contemplated selling it? That would be the first thing I would think of doing if I was him, seeing if it was saleable. He has presumably sunk in a lot more $$'s than he has got out of it so why wouldn't you look at that option first?
But the way he has gone about it it seems like an afterthought and he has already devalued the site by announcing its closure and so members started signing up elsewhere etc.
As for someone contemplating buying it and then relying on donations to make it viable, good luck with that one!
No shit man. The worst marketing strategy ever. The behavior is erratic and makes no sense.
First announce you're going to close (people head to the doors and sign up elsewhere.)
Then you don't close, and won't answer when. Could be "any minute" though.
Finally, a moderator (not you) announces that they may be open to selling although time is running out, and we may close before the details are ironed out.
In the meantime we'll ask for donations to cover the spread, and see if we execute a sale with the mystery buyer before the lights are turned out.
What???
Surely this guy was capable of understanding that he could have simply put if up for sale and walked away clean with some cash for his troubles?
What is any new owner going to do now? Take a negative cash flow website and make it profitable after announcing it has closed/or will close? It was a niche site to begin with, and in it's glory days still was a money loser. So what is any new owner going to do? Any buyer of this site is a moron who needs to validate himself somehow and is willing to pay for it. Furthermore once they look at their monthly bills, they'll loosen up their posting etiquette in hopes of keeping traffic, and in turn raise their risk of liability from Axl's sue happy ass.
What a fucking mess. Ironically, and once again, what's happening on a GNR board is the biggest news in the world of GNR.

Funny how it can go offline anytime for maintenance but now they have to wait for the service provider to shut it down.
Exactly. MM is one click and that's about it.
He could have made the announcement, said "so long and thanks for everything, we close at midnight" and then went into MM after the time elapsed.
I think they are hustling now to get some money and Eric is going to sell it. It's a money loser though and especially now, people have jumped ship. The whole thing is fucked up. I can't believe that a guy who ran a forum for that long would end it like this, what a disaster.

The whole thing is a sloppy mess, you'd almost think Axl was in charge of closing it.
#2608 Re: Management » MyGNR closing for business » 749 weeks ago
A total joke. I also think it's bullshit. I know somebody who contacted Eric a few days ago, asking serious questions in regards to operating costs and how to sell the forum, space required etc and got no response. A serious buyer asking serious questions and got zip for a reply.
#2609 Re: Management » MyGNR closing for business » 749 weeks ago
Why didn't they just do this from the start?
Hi Everyone,
As you know, the closure of MYGNRFORUM was announced a few days ago by Eric.
You guys have talked and we have listened. A number of you have expressed that you would consider making donations to keep the forum alive.
A prospective buyer has approached Eric, but needs some idea of what we can hope for in donations from members to determine whether the sale can even happen.
If you are interested in donating to keep the forum alive, please send me a PM with an amount you would potentially donate. Note, please only make a pledge if you intend to actually go through with it should a sale be finalised.
The ongoing costs of maintaining the site are significant and at the moment less than half the operating costs are covered. If the site is going to have a chance to survive, some generosity from members is going to be needed, particularly in the initial stages.
Cheers everyone,
Chris
NOTE: The site could go down at any point from now - time is of the essence.

Oh and not to keep hijacking about Jarmo's ridiculousness, but I just remembered this and had to post it. A few years ago, a guy I know over there was banned (for a week or so) for something he did on ANOTHER FORUM. I shit you not. Is it a wonder his board is so dead now?
