#2671 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Starts...(Rumored GH Re-Release in June) » 893 weeks ago
Ok...now i'm pulling this out of my ass...but like rather than evade his deal...might this not be a wind-up to actually releasing Chinese Democracy? Like couldn't hurt to remind a causal listener why GNR was a good band...then release a new album...a few months after. A GH album isn't for the fans like us who already have all the records. Its either gets bought by those reliving their youth who dont follow the band - who then might pick up the new album for the hell of it after re-enjoying the tracks they grew up hearing...or by new kids who might check it out cos they've heard their parents talk about the band (same reason I checked out the beatles as a kid)...if they then dig the music then they might be interested to hear a CD follow up.
Not saying it will happen.
But It helps to keep the brand alive I'd have thought.
When you spend 15 years on a record and your best idea to promote it is releasing your old band's hits, then it cannot get more pathetic. BTW it really can't get.
#2672 Re: Guns N' Roses » Another Baz interview with Axl mentions » 893 weeks ago
As much as I like Baz's voice, I don't want him to be in VR. But... what does Sebastian think? That when Axl choose to tour next time (whenever it'll be) he'll bring Baz with him again as the opening act?

How many tracks have you been working on?
I don't know... we've done so many songs and not all of them will be on the album. I don't wanna know too much about the album - I want to be surprised myself. Like even the final mixes - I haven't heard them yet![/i]" - Maximum Threshold, 04/13/07
I think that hearing the final mixes in April, 2007 would have really surprised Ron, since there wasn't any.

izzy quit after the albums were released but during the uyi tour
people are saying that is when axl took over
Izzy said that, beside the Slash & Duff drug use, Axl made him leave the band cause Axl acted like a dictator. He even called Axl later a 'mini Hitler'. Axl tried to make him sign a contract to decrease Izzy's money, because as Axl said 'we were friends, but now we're doing business'. That was when Izzy deicided to leave. So Axl began to become a dictator berore the UYIs, but the albums weren't 'his vision'. Some of it... yes... but not the whole. Or not even half of it.
I think those who list the songs' writing credits are often missing important points: first, that Axl (and even Izzy ) are over-credited; second that Axl has a lot of credits because he was the main lyrics writer. But it doesn't make Coma, Garden of Eden etc. be 'his babies'. Axl's babies are NR (mostly), the adopted The Garden, Yesterdays, Shotgun Blues, Breakdown, Estranged (mostly) and My World. Izzy had plenty babies, but most of them needed the Slash incubator or suffered of the lack of Slashness.
Anyway, fuck it, they were great, when you're in a band, you help out your friends with their songs, and they help you out, too.
BTW I agree with most of buzzsaw said.
#2676 Re: Guns N' Roses » Writing Credits/Listing of Musicians on each track » 894 weeks ago
I, not too long ago, made the joke to some friends that I wonder if they even know for sure who does what on what track at this point.
Good point
I think they'll try to make a UYI type of list for the tracks, but since it seems that Axl owns everything, the credits can easily be a simple Lyrics: Rose, Music: Guns N' Roses thing. (And Guns N' Roses is Axl Rose today )
I remember progressive metal gods Dream Theater did the same when they released A Change of Seasons album. Their keyboard player, Kevin Moore left not long before the album and he write a lot, but the music was credited to 'Dream Theater', although later surfaced demos proved that Kevin wrote 90% of keyboards.

UYI was Axl's vision? I'm a fan since 1989, but it was new to me. UYI is a collection of solo albums, with some band efforts.

Axl being Axl and Slash Being Slash off set each other cuz Axl brought more out of Slash....yes i wont deny it ... but Slash got Axl off his ass and actually got him to release material
One of the most common pro-Axl post is bout how he 'brought more out of Slash'. Well... I agree that most of Slash's best material was in Guns, and Axl was a huge factor, he was the biggest factor to make Slash the legendary player of his generation. But... as you've already mentioned it, but I think we should be more direct... Slash brought more out of Axl. Slash was able to make him work on the songs, finish and release material.
When you look at their post-1991 discography, it's very easy to compare nothing to something. Released material can be debated and criticized - yet I think Slash has done a lot of great songs without Axl that are on the same level with his best GN'R work. Some people who surely hasn't heard a Slash song often call him a 'one-trick pony'. Others call him a sell-out cause he plays with artists of various styles. I'm sorry, but fuck that shit. You can't say both.
I agree that Slash seems to say OK to every invitation. That's not great. But in 99 % of the guest appearances he adds a lot to the songs. And if you listen Neither Can I, Beggars, Jizz da pit, Lower, Back & Forth Again, Serial Killer, Obsession Confession, Street Child, Messages, Don't Drop the Dime etc. etc. you can't say he's a 'one-trick pony'. He's able to make great music in very different styles.
On the other hand...I think Axl is still great, but needs someone who tells him a reliable opinion. Who has the charisma to tell what's not good and what's good enough. He needs an equal partner. He needs Slash. And Slash needs Axl, too, otherwise he wouldn't talk that much about the 'out-of-reality' reunion.
#2679 Re: Guns N' Roses » New Del James interview on Suicide Girls website » 895 weeks ago
There would be no problem with the Del stuff and noone was bitching IF the slightly GN'R related news weren't a big percent of the GN'R updates (@ the official website, @ MySpace, @ anywhere else). Don't tell me that they can use the Internet to try to find a bike or to advertise Axl's friend or tell the world that the Die Mannequin guys are evil - and they can't state it on the same page that 'the recording and mixing is done, we're in talks with the record company'. Because Beta telling a newspaper that 'everyone knows that' doesn't mean shit. Later they can say that the magazin lied or 'misquoted' her.
I can only see one reason for the silence about the 'finished album': Axl is still too chicken to release it and the backlash would be even bigger in the media if they stated it had been done.

Mikkamakka wrote:Saikin wrote:I would hate to see Slash get his hands on any Cornell song, because he would instantly tear it to shreds. I don't even want to imagine Slash butchering Soundgarden songs in concert.
It'll never happen. And even though Cornell is one of the best vocalists of all time, it wouldn't be a good match. He needs musicians who are at his level musically and who gel with his type of writing. Slash, Duff, and Matt aren't those guys.
I respect your opinion, but I disagree with almost everything you said. BTW different styles can work quite well in a band, just remember the classic Guns N' Roses.
Sure different styles can work. However, Cornell is very serious when it comes to his lyrics, and the VR guys are more happy go lucky rock with some cheesy ballads. If Cornell brought ideas similar to what was recorded on Superunknown, Slash, Duff, Matt, and Dave would just stand there with a befuddled look on their faces.
They bring nothing to Cornell's table.
As far as I know Slash likes cool lyrics. After the pre-UYI problems with GN'R when the band had almost broken up, he said that only two things made him continue: that 'Axl is the best singer on this world and he can write great lyrics'. I know that Slash in not into spending months with writing lyrics for a single song, and he'd choose cock rock lyrics instead of the long wait, but saying that he'd be into cheesy or cock rock lyrics is just not true
