#2681 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Weiland on the howard stern show » 895 weeks ago
I would hate to see Slash get his hands on any Cornell song, because he would instantly tear it to shreds. I don't even want to imagine Slash butchering Soundgarden songs in concert.
It'll never happen. And even though Cornell is one of the best vocalists of all time, it wouldn't be a good match. He needs musicians who are at his level musically and who gel with his type of writing. Slash, Duff, and Matt aren't those guys.
I respect your opinion, but I disagree with almost everything you said. BTW different styles can work quite well in a band, just remember the classic Guns N' Roses.

A reunion for at least for some one-off shows was likely in the cards in late '05, when Universal was prepping the release of Welcome to the Jungle: The Very Best of GNR, a dualdisc release with a greatly improved track listing over GH. Slash commented on the situation via Ross Halfin, quite possibly to use the fanbase as a bargaining chip on Axl. Halfin even let the cat out of the bag by mentioning the original lineup should be appearing at the '06 Download festival. Slash was all smiles by then, saying that Axl was genius, CD should be great, etc. Somehow, Axl got pissed again and released his statement on Slash's visit to his house in early '06, which effectively killed the mood. But it was a Weiland situation, no question. VR were spinning their wheels and Slash & Duff got interested on the possibility of joining forces with Axl.
The interesting thins is that Slash went to Axl's house to announce that he had dropped the law suit. After that came Axl's infamous, two-version, manipulative press release. Maybe Axl used the reunion talks only to get Slash drop the lawsuit. After it happened, he not only nixed the reunion, but also attacked Slash on his ...well, I'll use the expression..disgusting way. Well, that's only a theory.
#2683 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR issue statement about Robin » 896 weeks ago
new email posted from Del at htgth. This is the part that deals with Robin. The other half deals w/ the Slash/Axl at an NYC hotel. That half is posted in that thread. Here's the first part:
Hey, there's all kinds of silliness and speculation floating around on the internet but as far as I know whatever Robin's plans are there are no plans in Guns to rewrite or re-record Robin's parts for the album.
They seem fine whereas before, and this was no fault of Robin's, there were tuning issues that needed to be addressed....Take care,
Del
What the hell does it mean? I read you guys, but I just don't get it... Why Del even said this? What was the question?
As I see it can only mean that Robin's guitars were out of tune on (some) of the recordings. I've been saying it for years, now even the Axl camp managed to realize it? I'm not talking about his live performances, that was...erm...obvious. But I thought that his out-of-tone studio playing was somehow intended. There wasn't a person with a bone to tell Axl that Robin was out of tone?
#2684 Re: Guns N' Roses » What exactly is Axl's Vision » 896 weeks ago
He doesn't have a vision, but has an aim he desperataly wants to reach, yet he fails again and again. Axl wants to prove that he is and he was the 'heart and soul' of GN'R. He wants to prove that GN'R was and is Axl Rose. He wants to succeed so badly that always kkep his eye on what's the hip and he wants to do that. Yet he's a genius, he's insecurity and megalomania defeated his great skills. There is no Axl vision as tommy Stinson once stated. He only wants to be very-very successful and afraid of not being a megastar, so he chooses not to do anything at all. Victory or Death became Victory or Nothing.
#2685 Re: Guns N' Roses » Rumor: Axl and Slash at same hotel in NYC? » 896 weeks ago
That leaves the rhythm guitarist spot. In an ideal world, it'd be Izzy, but we already know he prefers "dropping in" for guest spots to a full-on tour. Slash might simply insist that "Axl joins Velvet Revolver", and that Dave comes along, but tbh he's an out-and-out mercenary, and wouldn't hesitate to sell VR up the river. Gilby is pretty unlikely, having not had contact with either camp for a decade.
Gilby attended one of the GB shows of VR some weeks ago (I think one of the London gigs), he met and talked with the guys
#2686 Re: Guns N' Roses » Rumor: Axl and Slash at same hotel in NYC? » 896 weeks ago
I don't think Slash'd want to go to Axl so badly. He left cause Axl was unable to get on the stage in time, and was unable to finish anything, like an album. Not to mention that in Slash's eyes Axl was a control freak. Nothing changed since then.
I don't know if the meeting in NY happened. But even if it did, I'm sure it wasn't planned since Slash had his son with him and I don't think London or Cash is his personal assistant as Axl has Beta.
#2687 Re: Guns N' Roses » New NIN single w/Robin released... » 896 weeks ago
I don't think it'd be Finck. All of the last NIN records sound the same, and it's not an exception. I don't like this track though, it sounds like an uninspired With Teeth left-over.
#2688 Re: Guns N' Roses » If you're Axl and you're ready to tour.... » 896 weeks ago
I think if Axl is really ready then either he'll get another guitarist for the tour or there will be no tour behind the album. But if the negotiations doesn't turn out well and CD doesn't get released in the foreseeable future, then we won't see him in the next few years.
#2689 Re: Guns N' Roses » New NIN single w/Robin released... » 896 weeks ago
Good points, DTJ and madagas! I do think he's been working with Trent much longer and while GN'R might have not been aware of that situation, it's a strong possibility that Robin left Axl's camp a long time ago, but Axl decided not to update us as bad news aren't welcome in his world. Robin's never been my favourite guitarist, although I assumed he did some pretty good job on the 'new songs'. I wish him the best.
#2690 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » A question about VR's future setlists » 896 weeks ago
No STP for sure. I don't see them doing more GN'R songs. But if it happens, Paradise City and My Michelle would be strong candidates, just like any Izzy song if the silent one appears @ the show. Although I hope that at least one Snakepit I. song got played, like Beggars & Hangers-On, there isn't too much chance for that to happen.
But I can suggest them a VR tune they should play: Messages
