Yeah, 5 guitarists on some of these songs is ridiculous and unnecessary. Axl was obviously just squeezing in certain people(Fortus, Ron) because they were in the band. Fortus wasn't needed on any of the tracks he plays on. At least Ron did make the most of his input and brought something to the songs. Fortus apparently just strums a guitar ogver Huge/Tobias playing. Dude never should have been in the band, and if so, should have been a touring member only, which in reality is exactly what he is.
TWAT has 6 including Axl. I used to think 3 guitarists was a bit much, but that suddenly seems modest. I think you are right about him just squeezing in people just because they were in the band. I'm also sure it gave him more reason to stall the album. It's just funny to see all of the layers on these songs. I don't even think the average listener can pick them all out. What's a sub bass anyway?

I think Axl's insecurities held it back more than anything

Could someone please send it to me?

^ ok thanks. But i presume they are both the same album? So does it just mean that the 45 speed ones go faster so take more disks to get the same number of songs? Why then do people prefer a 45? Is there some reason it's better?
(Sorry to hijack the thread.)
I wonder how many different versions there will end up being of CD. I can see this getting expensive for me
45s was the format used to release singles. They only contained two tracks. One side was the a side (single) and the other side was the b-side. I don't know if it is any better in regards to sound quality. I personally would find it tedious to own an album that was spread across 5 vinyls with one song to each side.

The $100 version of Death Magnetic is on 5 vinyl 'discs'. The cheaper one is on 2.

I think it has been taken off of the site.

LF, I am not familiar with your or your site, but who are you to say it isn't a sufficient way to hear them? Isn't that up to the listener to decide whether or not it is sufficient enough? I don't see the big deal. People are hungry for these songs to the point where they are willing to suffer through the clicking to satisfy their curiosity. What is wrong with that?

I think ultimately the blame is on GNR. It is absolutely absurd that they try to control what is discussed on what are supposed to be independent fan forums. There has been a lot of discussion and criticism over the Chinese Democracy debacle over the years, but for me this is the most outrageous part of it and yet few really seem to care.
I hate that boards decide to sell out to the band, but at the same time it's totally human because it could get them closer to their idols. The band deserves more scorn than anyone, IMO.
Although I think Jarmo deserves criticism for the way he treats people. I don't mean to drag his name through the mud, but I left his board in disgust over the way he treats anyone who dares to criticize the band. It's one thing to censor certain things, but to attack people who aren't blindly loyal sheep is just despicable especially since it wasn't always that way at his site. I posted there for years and was one of Axl's biggest critics on that site. Despite my criticism, I never felt unwelcome there. I debated with Jarmo plenty of times myself. It was always respectful and intelligent, but obviously that all changed in 06 around the time Beta the attack dog was on guard. He started to act more like a Beta clone by attacking anyone who dare criticized the band. When I saw him basically call Dave a troll that was it for me. Dave has always been one of Axl's biggest supporters and no one that knows that better than Jarmo, but he quickly turned on Dave because Dave dared to question the band's version of why a gig was cancelled. I remember briefly reading over there after MSL's first leak when he told his whole story about it. At least one of Jarmo's mods was mocking MSL because of his weight and I thought it was appalling.
I agree with James that it was the best site and it's sad to see what it has become.
