My bet is the Better video is out this week.  I think Universal and Frontline work closely with Viacom, whose flagship rock station is K-Rock out of NY.  They had a GNR block weekend.  Also, VH1, which is owned by Viacom, rolled out WTTJ as the #1 hard rock song this weekend (or re-aired the countdown this weekend).  Typically, big artists management works with Viacom to coordinate these subtle cross marketing campaigns.  I could be wrong, but it seems to me this is not a coincidence.

Here's another reason I think this is about to be released--Billboard is now reporting on this single.  Frontline/UMG seem to leak news to Billboard--they broke the announcement for Frontline being the mgt., the Best Buy exclusive, and the release date.  It seems they may get a courtesy call saying, "this is what is about to happen".  Interesting, they report this today:

But somehow Axl Rose's familiar vocals hold it together. His sense of melody makes "Better" memorable, rendering the song equal parts rock and pop, and GN'R's first bona-fide single for the YouTube/iPod generation.

Well Better and Chinese Democracy had increased spins on the Mainstream Rock Chart.  Better moved up to #15 from #18, and CD held firm at #8.  In the drop down window, select "Mainstream Rock".

Overall album sales, as expected, are down dramatically--but, I believe the plunge for Black Ice is directly attributed to just how dependent they were with Wal Marts in-store Christmas traffic for sales.  Nice to see Chinese Democracy continuing to move up the charts.:haha:

Wow, anyone want discuss just how instrumental Wal Mart was to Black Ice's success in December?  This is very telling:

It is what it is, but trust me, when something becomes over-commercialized, it loses it's luster quickly.  When I see yuppie 13 year olds, moms, dads, and families in ACDC gear, I know that the product has become too mainstream, and lost it's credibility.  Over-saturated, commercialized shit.  I like it that I don't see yuppie wanna-be's decked out in GNR gear, like that makes them somehow cool.  ACDC, via Wal Mart, is turning into the Jonas Brothers--another temporary fad used to grab $$$.  What's next ACDC golf balls, and polo shirts pushed by Wal-Mart?

Not to slight you Bright Eyes, but I think anyone waiting for anything "big" to happen is setting themselves up for disappointment.

I firmly believe that if and when a video is released for Better it will A) be half assed live footage thrown together and B) Go largly unnoticed by most of planet Earth.

I never suggested anything of the sort, and I do not believe you were suggesting that I did.  I am simply stating, I believe that I think the video is going to surface this week.  Videos from all bands have gone unnoticed for years.  The whole concept lost it's luster somewhere in the mid nineties--the last videos I recall being "big" were Aerosmith's run with "Crying" and "Crazy".  The novelty which videos once were, is no longer there.

Give me a minute: so the Best Buy deal wasn't selling out?

A whole different beast, marketing approach, etc.  The Wal Mart blitz for ACDC is hyper-commercialized product & brand marketing.  Wal Mart has a cheap retail stench, that Best Buy does not have.  My point is the hyper-marketing of ACDC (t-shirts, etc) when going into a Wal Mart seems to reduce the value of the music--it is now just another cheap product as opposed to a valuable album. GNR laying low, to me, has maintained some form of integrity, and not allowed the brand to become "Wal Marterized".  Again, when I see every moron in the world now wearing ACDC gear from Wal Mart, to me it seems like it's over commercialized.

For the lack of promo I definitely think that it is selliing well.  As far as world sales it is #15 after five weeks, I wouldn't call that bad.  It also went platinum in a fairly quick manor (world sales) so again I don't see that as too bad.

Many argue (and don't get me wrong they are good arguments) that CD had a HUGE amount of promo over the past 17 years.  I can't deny that BUT my argument here is that the promo has been a double edged sword.  Because of the delays (mostly) I think the album went from "mythical" to "joke" in many peoples' minds so in the end I'm not sure this promo really helped much.

I still think laying low after the release was a good move in the long run.  ACDC is becoming too cliche, and is now teetering on the edge of "over-hyped".  When I see douchenozzles head to toe in ACDC gear they bought at Wal-Mart, all I can think of is "how lame".  GNR originally became cool, because they came from somewhere real, without mega-media hype bought and sold by the label and the uber-capitalistic machine.  It was tough to find those killer GNR t-shirts in 87 that the hipsters somehow had, which made them cooler (kind of the same theory on why it's better to sell out a smaller theater show as opposed to playing a half-full arena--one maintains a "cool" factor, as opposed to "sell out" factor). Selling your soul to push units is counter-productive in the long haul.  All I know, is that being a piece of the Wally-World machine reeks of "sell out" and lameness.  Just my two cents, but something to consider.

I wonder if they are going to release the video closer to the U.S. major theater  release (Jan. 16) of The Wrestler?  GNR is going to get some press mentions when this movie is reviewed, etc.  If my antennae are tuned in correctly, I have a feeling this movie is going to do well in the U.S.  In addition, Rourke may get an Oscar, as I have read in the early reviews, that his performance is captivating.
