SALEM – A thrift store in Salem was robbed Friday by an armed man dressed as rock guitarist Slash.

The suspect had been loitering in the Helping Paws Thrift Store, on Lancaster Drive NE, before the robbery, according to Don Thomson, with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. While two employees were working in the back of the store, the suspect approached a third employee and demanded money.

After he got money from the cash register, the suspect fled on foot.  Nobody was injured during the robbery.  Deputies searched the area, but did not find the suspect. They continued to review surveillance video from the store.

Witnesses described the suspect as looking like Slash (pictured, above), the former lead guitarist of the band Guns N' Roses.

He displayed a black handgun during the robbery. He was described as a white male in his 30s, 5'4”, with a thin build. He was wearing a long black wig under a black, brimmed hat. His coat was black and gray.  He wore black pants and white shoes. He was also wearing surgical gloves.

The Thrift Store is associated with the Willamette Humane Society and all proceeds from the store help abandoned and neglected animals in the Willamette Valley.

Anyone with information about this incident was asked to call Deputy Hunter at (503) 932-XXXX or leave anonymous information on the Marion County Sheriff's Office Tip Line at (503) 540-XXXX.
