Re: The Penn State Situation
Bottom line: sometimes what you DON'T do in life defines you... not what you DO in life.
46 years of iconic legendary status was wiped away in a week, because JoePa decided to "pass the buck" on a henous criminal activity.
It's sad to say i've seen it before. My mother used to work in the health department for schools, and used to have teachers all the time come to her who had had children who confided in the teacher that their father or uncle or family friend was raping them... and the teacher's all the time would try to pass the buck off to my mother to handle it. After all she's a health official.
Huh?
As my mother would explain, not only did the child confide in the teacher, not her, but the child doesn't have my mother's trust, nor did my mother witness the child's statement. She can't handle it.
PLUS
It's CRIMINAL. It's a CRIME. You know... for a cop?
These teachers NEVER reacted to it to "want to help". They always reacted to find a way to not deal with it and to not be involved with it, even if it meant more harm to the child. I'm sure JoePa did the same thing.
And frankly -- he deserves it. He totally dropped the ball and should be ashamed of himself. It's his own bed.
Re: The Penn State Situation
My grand uncle (by marriage thank god) went down for something like that. It's a shockingly "normal" thing it seems.
That really never came as a surprise though, there being sick people in society. What did surprise me, and for years I couldn't believe it (perhaps I still fully don't want to), is that when this shit goes down in some big organization it routinely gets covered up. It's because these things go straight to the top, right into the fucking white house. Of course a murderous psychopath is going to want to be a soldier general and of course a child predator is going to become a priest or teacher.
Look at all the recent revelations. Politicians are into kinky and sick stuff all across the board. These things are used as leverage. Can you imagine what you would do if somebody held a bunch of photos of you and a minor over your head?
None of these teachers or officials talk because if they do they'll get buried. These are ordinary tax paying citizens. People need to start asking why they continue to keep their mouths shut. Could it be internal pressure?

Heard an interesting rumor today.
Turns out that whole "Washington Secret Child Pedophile Society" thing that's been around for years.... was involved here.
The rumor also is Paterno hired a Criminal Attorney, not for the obvious reasons, and more dirt is gonna come out in the weeks & months ahead that shows Paterno was involved in the society, and the cover up went all the way up to the top, like with the Washington stuff. The guy who tried to uncover the whole thing and pushed Penn State in 2005 apparently "suddenly" went missing 2005, and hasn't been seen since.
Sorry I don't know more, but I thought it was an intriguing rumor. If true, it'll be HUGE.

I don't think it will be THAT big a scandal, but it is at face value. A storied football powerhouse who had an asst coach with this problem/sickness that chose to cover it up & keep it hush hush rather than report him to authorities. The fact it happened again in 2002 & was seen and reported by a grad student who is still on staff is disturbing. Was this guy given an asst coaching job to win over his silence. If so, seriously, how can he live with himself. Bad idea now, cause with a new coach coming in next season he'll be gone & will never find an asst coaching job again. Thanks to google, a unique name and look, he'll have trouble finding any work again.
As for the DA, yeah that's a strange story, certain needs to be reinvestigated, but he was a DA, and it could have been ANY crime he tried. I think I heard he broke up a big heroin ring up there so something like that could have been a factor. Although I heard he did a google search on his PC on how to erase a hard drive. I wonder if myb he was associated with Sandusky's pedophilia (photos on laptop) or was one he 'pimped' out to, and heard a grand jusry investigation was to begin. Or maybe in investigating the crime he began viewing alot of child porn as research to start.
I do think JoePa needed to go asap. Those whining about him not finishing out the season need to realize that he had to know this would explode. or his assistants/handlers knew that. I remember the University went to his house to ask him to retire & he threw them out of his house. I have a feeling myb this was why. Honestly I don't think he realizes the massive size of this scandal & it's long lasting repurcussions. He seemed more interested in coaching against Nebraska & leading kids on a "We are.... Penn State" chant while this trajesty is national headlines.
The school is going to enter a large period of gloom. Enrollment drops, athletic recruit drops, lawsuits. It's going to get ugly.

I heard a similar rumor except it was that Sandusky was running a pedophile sex ring and whoring out those kids to the highest paying donors of that Second Mile foundation that he ran.
Paterno is definitely involved here as there is no way this shit would go on without his knowledge. I find it interesting that after he gets investigated in 1998 he gets forced out the following year. Keep in mind that he had always been seen as the coach in waiting for Penn St. Even more curious is that he didn't coach anywhere after that. He was relatively young (55 or so) when he retired. I think he won some coaching award that year too for best asistant or something. Even shitty coaches get jobs at lower level schools.
Another rumor I've read is that the grad assistant was also a victim of sexual abuse. I'm not sure I believe that one though.
