Who do you guys think will benefit more from the VR split?  Long-term and short-term.

I was having a conversation with my one friend and we were talking about the split.  So needless to say I wanted to get your guys' views on the matter.  My opinion is that STP will have a good tour, maybe release a new album.  But in the end, something will happen.  IMO that something will be Scott fucking it up by getting even more into his old habits.  VR on the other hand are sort of dead in the water at the moment.  But I believe that they have the brighter future.  they are such a talented band and I dont think its any question who the weakest link was.  Now that that link is gone, they will hopefully be able to get some of their swagger back.  None of the VR albums so far have been up to the potential they have exhibited while with GnR.  But if they can find a worthwhile singer, I think we're in for atleast one kickass album.

I think it's a win-win situation if VR finds a viable replacement for Weiland.  If they can get someone who'll be in the band longterm, contributing to the songwriting, and not hold them back artistically, it's great.  Meanwhile, I think this summer's STP tour will be huge.  While longterm efforts may not be so positive for the band, this cash grab tour will be massive.

In my opinion, STP benefits more from the VR fall out.  It's apparent that the DeLeos, while amazing musicians, haven't had any success in comparison to STP with either Talk Show or AoA.  For that matter, i say STP benefits more, because a lot more of the younger generation are being turned onto STP and their fanbase will grow.  Also, they now have the chance to record STP 6, which they have already started writing and will record and release after the tour.

Slash will always have a following because he's Slash.  He doesn't benefit that much as far as i'm concerned, because he always has enough oportunities to put himself out there.

But as for the future of VR, i think they should be over.  Slash and Duff are just messing up their legacies they left with GNR by consistently failing to achieve any success that is comparable to GNR.  I think they should do their solo projects until GNR are ready to reunite.

yeah i have to think about this a bit cuz up front it appears that STP won cuz they are touring immediately

long term? i dunno at the moment...its hard fora rock band to do anything without a singer...Scott left with somethign to fall back on....the VR guys need a peice of the puzzle to continue as an entity

The STP guys.  For exactly what Neemo said, they're able to take the publicity of the split and run with it right away.

In the long run, no matter how popular anything else the rest of the guys do, they'll always be "former GNR members", Scott immediately goes back to STP(which is what he would always be known for), so the asterisk isn't there when talking about him anymore.

Right now, I'd say STP wins hands down. Probably both in the long run and short term. But you can't ever tell with Scott. He goes off the deep end too much to be reliable. Maybe VR can find someone that will make them a lot better.

Although, if Slash, Duff, and Matt now hooked back up with Axl they would have the advantage without a doubt. They would be much bigger than STP.

STP will die in the ass fast though. Scott fucked up the band last time with his drugs. So far this year he has already cancelled a VR tour due to drug and legal issues. Now he thinks crew members are singing on stage with him? His behaviour for the last 6 months has been erratic as hell. I think he'll burn the STP boys again within a year or two and be left wondering what the hell he has done. that's if he doesn't kill himself with his drugs first.

STP will benefit more in my opinion. They are the more flexible band as far as sound and being able to incorporate what Scott has taken in during the hiatus. They will also appreciate having a gifted writer singer back. The big issue with VR to me is they have cultivated a seemingly enlightened view of negativity to themselves. He is an addict, well yeah they all are. Addicts are a pain in the ass you can't save them unless they want to be saved... Funny they forgot and I learned it from them.

The first phase of looking for a singer was so cynical, defensive and negative towards the creative talent in America it just sticks. Who would really want to associate themselves with that? It's not dangerous it's bad business . They can't go out now and say "we had so much talents and so much response to our first search for a singer we are excited and are sure this time we will find an even better fit, as a matter of fact we have stuff in the wings that is mind blowing." Nope they are so concerned with Image they don't have one. They could have oh they could have but know they are going to limp on to solo projects and European tours like they did when Guns and Roses imploded. Priceless to listen to big business, it strikes me the people they are so concerned with impressing Label, muzak, et al...can't even figure out the basics of the music industry... They made their bed... no they can lay in it...

I vote for the Silhouette, at least she looks interesting....but with the people they hang out with trying to impress that ain't ever going to happen....You just can't be A list talent following the crowd, which is why at the end of the Day I think Scott/STP will end up on top.....and VR will continue to fade from view. Not dangerous in the right way, not anymore. Might as well go with Harvey the rabbit, down down down the rabbit hole with Alice.... least she won't lie to you...... but I would agree it is easier just to hang out with the old A listers... it's safe not dangerous... They need to lose that saying or live it with some sincerity. A gifted animator won't save you now, time to jump in the deep end....
