By the way, that Shooter Jennings thing would never fly in Europe, there's literally no southern rock affinity over here. The last slightly southern sounding thing to be successful over here was "Achy Breaky Heart"... no exaggeration.

You're telling me people in Europe don't dig .38 special or the king of southern rock, Skynyrd?  How can you not dig free bird?

We dig it, but the genre is far from big or for that matter well recognised. I mean over here there hasn't been much of a  'want' for anything southern rock in years. It wouldn't work well in Europe.

Wow just saw Government Mule and Black Crowes rock it out.. don't know what your missing, but I suspect they do this by design....They actually like their fans and pick awesome venues. It helps to be that way in case you are honest about addiction issues.

From that list.. Shooter Jennings I would pick.

I agree, and I still laugh when I see Cornell get added to these lists.

Cornell should make a public statement saying he has no interest so the speculation regarding him is halted.

"If he wanted to sing for a band outside of Soundgarden I would play with him in a heartbeat." - Slash, 07/11/97

"[Sebastian] did some amazing fantastic stuff on [the music we gave him to record vocals over] and you know he's an old friend of ours and I love the guy dearly," Duff said. "The problems we ran up against is, it's kind of with Baz, we sounded like SKID ROW, and we don't want to go down that [road]... We're forging forward, you know, [and] we want to try to break some new ground. That doesn't mean that we want to be industrial or modern rock... we just want to be something new, and this whole time, we've kept current with music. I mean, some of my best friends are the [guys from] QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, or [JANE'S ADDICTION's Dave] Navarro, or [AUDIOSLAVE's] Chris Cornell... you know, these are guys who have gone on and moved forward, and that's something that we are doing [with VELVET REVOLVER]." - 07/01/03

So you know, Slash likely still loves Cornell's style, and the man's good friends with Duff. They'd probably love to have Cornell in the band, and its more about him agreeing to do it. So whenever there's a chance, Cornell will get namedropped. The same way GNR reunion gets mentioned every now and then.

Well I love Chris voice and his writing, but I not sure he would generate the kind of emotionally vulnerable and honest discourse that sets these guys off (they are so freaking self assured it's hard to get under their tough hide and get a reaction). I certainly enjoyed a very punk rock weekend in the studio just thinking about their situation. You get what you need and it would certainly not be difficult to listen to them with Chris. I am just not sure if the charge is right to get them back to where they want to be, which is obvious to everyone at this point...Kind of what Chris is saying music needs, I don't know maybe..He hung out in Borders in Hollywood back in the day never knew them to be friends but they were finishing the UYI tour..and then all the chaos when they came back and things imploded kind of rippled, guess we all get more sympathetic when we actually talk... well some of us anyway....

I know this probably isn't a popular choice but I'd love to see Ginger write and perform with Velvet Revolver. He's extremely prolific and very musical. Plus writes some awesome riffs. If anyone has heard the Wildhearts B-Side song 'fired up' you'd swear it was Slash playing the outro.

I finally saw Travis Meeks intervention episode. I had no idea the guy was that insanely talented. Hopefully, he can stay alive & write some more great music. I don't really see him fronting VR though. He seems like more of a modern day Johny Cash type guy, than a dancing around guy.

What about the dude that's on American Idol right now?  It worked for Daughtry, maybe someone like that could get the kids interested and still put out some good rock music.  the only problem with someone like that is unknown song writing abilities - especially lyrically.
