Re: Velvet Revolver Say No To Reality Show, Plan To Announce Lead Vocalist
It's certainly no secret that Velvet Revolver, having recently parted ways with Scott Weiland as their lead singer, are currently looking for a new voice. After two albums together, Weiland decided to reunite with his original band Stone Temple Pilots and now Velvet Revolver, which consist of former Guns N Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, are in the process of trying to replace him. After leaving Guns N Roses and successfully starting Velvet Revolver together, the band has a 'Been There, Done That' attitude and they couldn't be more ready to start the process with finding a vocalist.
Video clip :
We caught up with drummer Matt Sorum to get his thoughts on the band being excited for the next chapter together.
Matt Sorum Excited To Move Forward
"We're coming out with something in a couple of weeks and I think it's going to surprise everybody. It's exciting. We're moving forward. We're going to keep going and play Rock N Roll and get a new guy singing so, we did it before we'll do it again."
Sorum even admitted that Mark Burnett, Producer for many hit reality shows on T.V., approached the band about possibly doing a sequel to Rockstar, but Velvet Revolver didn't think it would hold true to their integrity. Sorum also talked about saying no to the reality show and where the band is in the process of finding a new singer.
Matt Sorum Gives An Update On Velvet Revolver Seach For Singer
"We're really seriously thinking about doing something online. Yeah, we got offered a couple of different television ideas you know. Mark Burnett called us and asked us to do that Rockstar thing and we basically said 'No!' to that. We didn't feel it was right for us. No disrespect to him but it just didn't feel right for what we want to do. As many years as we've tried to keep our integrity intact we felt that wasn't the right forum for us to do it so, we got some ideas and we should have that news in a couple weeks."
Both Matt Sorum and Scott Weiland have gone back and forth in the press about the bands breakup, even to the point where Weiland threatened to reveal secrets about Sorum to the press. Stone Temple Pilots have started their reunion tour with a show at Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio and current tour dates extend until October 24th at Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans. Look for Velvet Revolver to get back into the studio in the near future, with a new vocalist and a new band name. Many rumors as to who the band has been rehearsing with have been circulating, but everything remains under wraps, at least for a little while longer.

wow. cool news that its happening so fast.
the name change is interesting - perhaps after the GNR debacle they are sensitve to using band names after people go - or maybe its cos the new singer will not want to be associated with scott.
So what are the current rumours?
1. Cornell. Would be awesome. Although he's arogant as all hell, so would lead to more scott issues. Also everyone seems to think he won't do it.
2. Baz. I'd also like this. But it seems less likely now than a few years back as Baz has a good solo band and a record and tour happening. Also the band previously rejected him, and he seems to have said its not happening to Axl. So i doubt that will happen.
3. Kiedis. Not sure what i think of this...his rap style thing wouldn't sit well with me outside of a funk outfit like RHCP I think..but i'd give it a listen.
4. Tosh Todd...already bounced once, plus buckcherry is recording a new album.
What are the other famous people options?

Monkeychow I'd add in Lenny Kravitz, although, since they say they are changing the name, for some reason it seems less likely it'd be him IMHO. Since he's always been a solo artist, I could see them continuing on as VR. If it was a singer from another large band (Kiedis) I could see them changing it as in they are a new supergroup. Cornell I could see them changing it, mostly because he may not like the name or want anything to do with a band name Weiland came up with. We'll see.
