Interestingly, he listed his top 10 riffs 5 years ago (around the time of Contraband) in Total Guitar magazine and they were quite different. I'll try to dig up that issue when I get home. They were hand written. Back In The Saddle was number one I think. Number 10 had Black Dog scribbled out then he wrote the Ocean, scribbled it out and settled on How Many More Times. Space Truckin by Deep Purple was there - can't remember the rest. He also listed top 10 solos (No.1 was Last Child) and top 10 guitar players (Jimmy Page was no.1 I think, Rory Gallagher was in there too, which is cool).

This paragraph was with the songs, so I think he acknowledges what you're saying.

I was hugely influenced by the single note riff, here is a quick playlist of 15 great riffs that come to mind. But, there are many, many more! I'm going to come up with batch next month.

I'm never gonna ask again why Slash sticks with his sound.
Honestly, I saw you and some other people questioning that in the other thread a week or so ago(or whenever the hell that was).
I know the phrase "comfort zone" was being used at the time, and I remember thinking Slash just would never even consider going in the directions getting talked about because it's just not something he's into.
But I was about 4 pages late to the party and didn't want to just re-hash.
I can completely respect the talent of guys like Buckethead, but riffs like the ones he mentions are the ones that really turn me on too.
