VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash and John Mayer joined ZZ TOP on stage on Friday, August 21 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California to perform the songs "LaGrange" and "Tush".
Commented Slash: "That was a gas Friday night. Billy Gibbons was phenomenal and John Mayer is a pretty bad-ass player as well."

Slash was in the crowd at "SummerSlam" tonight, not sure it would've been worth me starting a thread about it though...

Metallex, it was good, John is a good player... But look up him doing sweet child o'mine and you will cry. Same with him doing Panama by Van Halen. Also Mayer's tone is a good strat tone, but he is going up against to Les Paul's with high gain....

You don't hear about Billy Gibbons all that much, but just about every guitar player in the business, at least blues-influenced, looks at that guy like a God.
Hendrix actually said he was a great up & coming guitarist before he died. He was on a late night talk show (Steve Allen?), and was asked who he looks up to. He said a blues guitarist from Texas, named Billy Gibbons.
Or something like that.

Yeah because he's not from the Shred School people tend to under estimate Billy, but if you want a guy to play the perfect note in the perfect spot he's your man....also the low gain pinch harmonics are cool as fuck.

Billy has one of the greatest tones in the history of rock guitar. His tone can pretty much level any other guitar player. Billly plays with pure balls and he is a major badass. Seen him in concert a few times. He never dissappoints. John Mayer is good, especially when he sticks to blues based stuff. But he would be a bad hard rock/metal player. Slash can play the blues better than Mayer can play rock. Mayer is good, and can play, but lets don't act like he is Ynqwie Malmsteen or something.
