To all the people that think Axl has evolved and grown since UYI, you're right he has. He moved from 1992 to 1994.  Congrats to him.  He managed to evolve a whole 2 years, which is about as far as the guys in VR evolved with Weiland and his STP sound.

What year and what style something sounds like is COMPLETELY irrelevant. It all comes down to whether the song and melody is good. Buzz doesn't like the album because he simply doesn't like the songs. So, arguing with him on any level will never change his mind. 1992 1972 1999 2007....who gives a fuck? So I guess AFD was "dated" since it sounded like 70's Aerosmith?

Did it really?  I don't recall Aerosmith ever having a song like Rocket Queen, the last 2 minutes of PC, SCOM, and some of the others.  The rock songs on AFD have a feel that no band has ever had before or since.  Even though I'm not a huge AFD fan, there's no way you can compare those songs to Aerosmith.  Even though both are blues based riffs, the styles and change of pace on AFD smokes anything Aerosmith ever did, and I say that as a Aerosmith fan that has seen Aerosmith live more than I've seen GnR.

If you want to make a comparison, find an accurate one at least.

You don't like Chinese Democracy and Guns N' Roses post-Slash.

WE GET IT!

walk this way...brownstone....guitar outro on Sweet Emotion is comparable to the outro of PC without the chorus. Rocket Queen has a very Lord of the Thighs feel to it...I am easily not the first to compare Gnr to Aerosmith. You must be an 80's Aerosmith fan. Slash is a fucking carbon copy of Perry and Axl is pretty similar to Tyler.

and Buzz, this is the most ignorant comment you have ever made..

Sweet Emotion compared to PC?  Wow is all I can say.  I own every Aerosmith album before Just Push Play.  I know their music very, very well.  You can try to compare it all you want, but anybody intimately familiar with both catalogs would never do so.  There are distinct musical differences that anybody that really understands the music would not equate.  The people making the comparison are lazy.  they are both blues based rock, so they must be the same, right?  2

Lazy? Maybe. And I do agree that there are subtle differences between Gnr and Aerosmith but it has more to do with attitude and nastiness. However, I find your generic Axl is still back in the 90's comment to be lazy as well. What exactly is he suppose to do to make it "modern"....? Seriously.....what rock that you hear on the radio is "modern" and fresh? And please don't say NIN....Reznor has done the same exact type of music for 20 years.

I love Aerosmith, so I'm not bashing them at all, but I don't know that you could take their 10 best pure rock songs and a couple of their best power ballads from their entire career and line them up against AFD and have a better album...and AFD is probably my 3rd favorite GnR album.

I won't say NIN.  Honestly, I don't want Axl to do anything "modern" like what's on the radio.  I think "modern" rock on the radio today is weak and not interesting at all.  I want Axl to embrace what he is, which is a great rock frontman, and be that instead of trying to progress to something that isn't progressive at all.  Sometimes you just have to accept what you are.  He's trying too hard to be something he isn't, and people are trying to play it off as Axl being modern.  He's not being modern, he's being early to mid 90s in 2008.  You cannot spin it any other way.

agree for the most part....I wish Axl realized that his main skill and talent is raw emotion. We have his dense record now. I wish he would strip it way back down on whatever he does next. Oh well, I'm bored because it has rained 250 inches in Atlanta over the last week. Tn is hanging with Fla though....

I think I would like a stripped down Axl album.  I would buy CD if they ever remixed it to a more natural sound.  I have always said that I thought some of the songs had potential, but there's so much going on that it ruins the music.
