Re: GNR go Gold
Karma to everyone for discussing other bands in a Gn'R thread in the Gn'R section:bs::laugh: . Sure we've gotten WAY off topic but like James said that's what makes this place so cool. No need to slam something shut when legit good spirited discussion is happening.

totally bigbri and by the same token you dont have to play fast to sound heavy
in any case when you talk about heavy music i dont consider meaningful lyrics to be "heavy" like i said i would describe a song with meaningful lyrics as "deep"
As for the song One by U2 I honestly feel it's my generations Imagine.
c'mon ... now you're just getting carried away
Re: GNR go Gold
I wouldn't say it's our generations Imagine either as it doesn't hit on quite as many "themes" and issues. However, One is a drop dead classic. My fav lines
Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much?
More than a lot.
You gave me nothing,
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
See we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again

Name me a song that's came after Imagine that can be even considerd as possibly our generations version. I don't think you can other than One by U2. It's definately in the conversation. It's a song that has global appeal as well as a global message. Both are great pop rock songs, both are absolute classics. Q Magazine ranked One as the greatest song of all time. I know lists are crap but to make it #1 on any all-time list fomr a music publication is pretty cool. Let's be honest if our generation even has a version of Imagine it's gonna come from U2 regardless

I really think it is my generation's Imagine. Less of a dreamers song though. It's not as hopefull but sadly more realistic outlook.
""It is a song about coming together, but it's not the old hippie idea of 'Let's all live together.' It is, in fact, the opposite. It's saying, We are one, but we're not the same. It's not saying we even want to get along, but that we have to get along together in this world if it is to survive. It's a reminder that we have no choice".
