It was part of his big online post.
He never said it was The General. Just said that we might have already heard parts of the song somewhere. Could be this clip or it could be any of the jams they did in 2006.

Its a little longer than the checkmate leak. He sings the first lyric of the next verse, the word all, in this one and didn't in the old one. Som1 is trying to tell us they have the full song or at least more of it
That's not new, I've had him saying the word "all" since 06. In fact it goes on to say "all in good" and then stops. Nothing new.
What happened was a member here "cleaned up" the checkmate leak and looped it where the line "all in good" was removed. Thus, the more common shared "leak" became the one without these three words.
I can't remember the whole thing but I believe it goes something like this:
All cautions made, every chance was given
No efforts spared, to save what we had
All in good (it stops here but "faith" would be the next
logical word imo)

Well considering the fact he made that statement when the topic of discussion was LEAKS - i'd assume Checkmate = The General.
He might of been referring to live jams, but I highly doubt it.

Axl confirmed Checkmate to be a real track and said it's working title was Jackie Chan. In a later comment he said we might have heard part of The General somehwere before. One of Jackie Chans nicknames is The General, so whilst not stone cold proof it's a big coincidence otherwise.

It's funny I've always thought the next word would be 'time' but faith also works.

Did he actually confirm it or say that checkmate was a "bogus" title?
The Jackie Chan part was speculation, albeit very good deductive reasoning and possibly true.

No he confirmed it, I'm pretty sure and said it was now called Jackie Chan. The link to checkmate/Jackie Chan and General is speculation but as you said pretty good logic.
