Re: Oscars 2009
Sucks that Mickey lost. I'm glad Heath won. Slumdog is headed for backlash-city I think. The movie is good, but not "win every damn award" good. Hollywood is trying to show that they have a conscience by giving this ultra praise to a small movie about the slums but too bad for them they pretty much IGNORED one of the best movies ever made, City of God, which is far more honest in its depiction of slum life than Slumdog. Slumdog is very much a Hollywood fairy tale compared to City of God.
Re: Oscars 2009
its all bullshit...before the awards the red carpet peopel on E predicted that cruz and winslett would win cuz "they deserved it as they are the longest serving current actresses without one" ..and low and behold they won wtf is that shit? should be based on the performance in question not anything else...if you were so close 100 times then so be it if someoen was always better then sucks to be you..same with ledger...the sympathy vote tipped the scales for him...not taking away the performance cuz it was pretty awesome but nobody else had a chance cuz he just died
mickey prolly blew his opportunity cuz of stupid actions over the past couple months
anyway i dont watch award shows either...cant stand them

Case in point, Denzel Washington wins for a good role in a average movie "Training Day" after several previous better performances. It's alway art movies which usually win too, My Left Foot. The Piano etc.
I do think Ledger still would have been nominated, but I agree he wouldn't have won.
Re: Oscars 2009
The Wrestler... great film... Gran Torino.... great film... Milk... great film...
And even I still know - THE DARK KNIGHT - was the best film of 2008.
Come on man, if the Oscars called it right, TDK would've been nominated in everything, and swept the place. If Lord Of The Ring: Return of the King can get tons of praise, so can freakin' Batman.
The Oscars HAVE ALWAYS told audiences what to like.
